Fat Cattle Report 

Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the first week of December, 2021.  Tallied numbers this week included –

1700 fat cattle

10900 lambs
3200 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a mixed quality yarding on offer with a couple of large runs of Bos Indicus cattle alongside good lines of young cattle for the processors, feeders and restockers with a limited supply of well finished grown cattle and cows penned. 

Young kill cattle were 10 cents dearer with prime vealers selling to a top of 540c/kg.  Prime steer yearlings brought 480 – 568 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 480 - 596c/kg. Feeder steers and feeder heifers were 10 - 15 cents dearer, with feeder steers selling from 478 - 618c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 450 - 590c/kg.  Young restockers were firm to slightly dearer selling to a top of 788c/kg for steers and 722c/kg for heifers.  Grown steers and heifers were 5 cents dearer, with prime grown steers selling from 430 - 490c/kg, while prime grown heifers brought 410 - 488c/kg.  Cows were dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 340 - 385c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 385 - 400c/kg.  

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to Nyngan for the Burley family off “Woodlands Station”, who sold fresh Santa cross steers for 632 cents and weighed in at 336kg coming back at $2125.

To Geurie now for the Tudor family, who sold well finished Angus steers that weighed 400kg bringing 612 cents, making $2448.

Lastly to Yeoval for the Vaughan family off “Iona”, who sold well bred Angus steers for 572 cents, weighing 511kg coming back at $2928. 

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report 

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a very mixed quality yarding with only a few pens of heavy weight lambs alongside limited well finished suckers.  There was still a big percentage of Merino lambs and hoggets throughout.  Trade weight new season lambs were $15 - $20 cheaper selling for $146 - $232, with quality and freshness being the factor. Heavy weight lambs were $20 - $25 cheaper with old lambs over 24kg selling from $210 - $280 to average between 810 - 890c/kg.  Merino’s were unchanged with trade weights making from $150 -$194.   

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients - 

Firstly to Baradine for the McConnaughty Family off “Elstow”, who sold Merino wether lambs that were in a 3 score condition with an inch skin that made $199. 

Down to Narromine now for the Paine family off “Wongaroo”, who sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition to the southern exporters for $257.

Locally for the Kidd family off “Kungee”, who sold fresh crossbred suckers in a 2 & 3 score condition for $170.

Also in the Dubbo district for the Toohey family, who sold well finished crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition, with an 8 week skin for $238.

At Wellington for the Whale family off “Glenroy”, who sold well bred crossbred lambs with a 6 week skin, in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $230.

Lastly to Euchareena for Brian Brazier off “Wombang”, who sold fresh crossbred suckers in a 2 score condition, to the restocker orders for $163. 

 

Into the mutton pens now, where most grades we well represented in a fair quality yarding. Lighter weight sheep were slightly dearer while the heavier weights lost $5 - $10.  Merino ewes selling from $110 - $207 and the crossbred ewes made $120 - $224 to average between 590 - 610c/kg.  Merino wethers sold from $140 - $220.

 

Just a quick quote this week for the Rees family of “Willis Park” at Peak Hill, who sold heavy Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin to the local exporter for $180.
