Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 4th week of August 2022.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  3100 fat cattle
22000 lambs
  5000 mutton

 Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a good quality yarding on offer with limited numbers of young cattle to suit the processors along with a fair number to suit the feeders. There were a couple of large runs of Bos Indicus cattle alongside a fair supply of cows and grown steers and heifers.  

 Young kill cattle were 10 cents cheaper with quality being the main factor with prime vealers topping at 530 cents.  Prime steer yearlings brought from 450 – 574 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 420 - 550c/kg.  Feeder steers and heifers were 10 cents cheaper with feeder steers selling from 335 - 578c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 350 - 512c/kg. Young restockers were dearer selling to a top of 652c/kg for steers and 626c/kg for heifers.

 Grown steers were 5 cents cheaper while grown heifers sold firm.  Prime grown steers sold from 420 – 465c/kg, while the prime grown heifers sold for 430 – 500c/kg.  Cows were 10 cents cheaper, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 266 - 394c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 390 - 428c/kg to average around 403c/kg.

 Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

 Firstly to Broken Hill for the Taylor family off “Owen Downs”, who sold well finished Santa cross steers weighing 703kg to bring 430 cents, coming back at $3024.
 

Now to Coonamble for the Harvey family off “Glenhaven”, who sold well bred Angus steers off the crop that made 540 cents, they weighed in at 492kg coming back at $2658.

 At Mendooran for the Adams family off” St Louie”, who sold Fresian steers in a fresh condition to the feedlotters for 346 cents, weighing 274kg coming back at $948.

Down the highway to Wellington for the Holland family off “Uungula”, who sold Angus heifers in fat condition to the kill for 460 cents, weighing in at 572kg making $2633.

 Lastly in the same district for the Grattan family off “Pine Park”, who sold well bred Angus heifers to the feed orders for 548 cents, weighing 380kg bringing $2087. 


Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a mixed quality yarding with a good selection of heavy lambs throughout but only limited number of trade weights penned.  There was a large portion of Merino lambs and hoggets.  

 Trade weight lambs were $30 cheaper and more in places selling for $80 - $164 averaging around 560 – 645 cents.  A few pens of trade weight suckers made $165 - $174.  Heavy weight lambs up to 30kg were also $30 cheaper while the extra heavyweights fell $20.  24 – 30kg lambs sold from $144 - $205 to average 645c/kg, while the over 30kg made $194 - $238.  Merino’s were $40 cheaper with trade weights making from $80 -$132, while the heavier Merino lambs sold from $137 - $190.    

 Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Firstly to Warialda for the Reardon family off “Duntulm”, who sold Merino wether lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch and a half skin for $124.

 To Nyngan for the Hoare Family off “Bel-Air”, who sold crossbred lambs in a fresh 3 score condition for $140.

 Locally in the Dubbo district for the Pilon Family off “Chloe”, who sold fresh crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, to the northern export for $190.

 Down the highway to Geurie for the Beard Family, who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with an inch skin for $176.

 Lastly to Wellington for the Whale family off “Glenroy”, who sold trade weight crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $122.

 

Into the mutton pens now, where it was a fair quality yarding with all grades being $30 - $40 cheaper.  Light Merino ewes sold from $50 - $100 while the heavier better finished ewes made from $100 - $135.  Light crossbred ewes brought from $65 – $90 while the better covered ewes sold from $100 - $130.  Best Merino wethers topped at $135.

 Just a quick quote this week for the Kelly family off “Hillview” at Wongarbon, who sold well bred crossbred ewes with a 2 inch skin, in a 4 score condition to the local exported for $110.
