Fat Cattle Report 

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of August 2022. 

Tallied numbers this week included –

2100 fat cattle

16200 lambs

4800 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a good quality yarding with a good supply of prime vealers and yearlings to suit the kill orders alongside the odd pen of feeders. There was also a good number of grown steers, heifers and cows.

Young kill cattle were 20c dearer with prime vealers selling to a top of 562c/kg. Prime steer yearlings bringing 480c - 590c and the prime yearling heifers made 400 - 556c/kg. Feeder steers were 15c - 20c dearer while the feeder heifers were 10c dearer with Feeder steers selling from 404 - 580c/kg while the feeder heifers made 410c - 544c/kg. Young restockers were firm selling to a top of 754c/kg for steers and 585c/kg for heifers. Grown steers and heifers were 5c dearer with prime grown steers selling from 460c - 508c/kg. Prime grown heifers brought 430c – 468c/kg. Cows were 10c dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 250 - 426c/kg while the prime heavy weights made 390 - 438c/kg to average around 415c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to Geurie for the Whillock family off “Maxland”, who sold, well bred Angus steers for 569c/kg and weighed in at 389kg coming back at $2214/head.

Lastly in the Dubbo district for the Koerstz family off “Warrie”, who sold well finished Angus cross steers that weighed 577kg making 480c/kg bringing $2770/head.


Fat Sheep & Lamb Report 

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good quality yarding with good numbers of heavy lambs throughout but only the odd pen of trade weights. There were also good numbers of well finished Merino lambs. Lightweight lambs to kill $5 dearer with 12 – 18kg selling from $50 - $86. Trade weight lambs were $30 dearer and more in places selling from $120 - $200 to average around 825c/kg. Trade weight suckers selling for $160 - $190 averaging around 780c – 810c/kg.

Heavy weight lambs up to 30kg $25 dearer while the extra heavy weight were $15 dearer. 24kg – 30kg lambs made from $170 - $227 to average 740c/kg while lambs over 30kg sold from $210 - $276 averaging 755c/kg. Merino lambs were $40 dearer with trade weights selling from $107 - $185 while the heavy weight merino lambs sold to a top of $210.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Firstly to Hermidale for Dewhurst family off “Elmsley”, who sold, heavy weight crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with an inch skin for $188.

Down the highway to Nyngan for the Hoare family off “Karabran”, who sold, freshly shorn SAMM lambs in a 3 score condition for $210.

Lastly to Geurie for the Whillock family off “Maxland”, who sold, well bred extra heavy crossbred lambs lambs in a 4 score condition to the local exporter for $234.

Into the mutton pens now, where most grades were represented in a fair quality yarding that saw all grades lift by $30 - $40. Merino ewes selling from $100 - $172 and the crossbred ewes made $130 - $180. Merino wethers sold from $135 - $165.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -

Quickly to Tullamore for the Doherty family off “Bundarra”, who sold well bred Merino wethers with a large 2 and a half inch skin in a 3 & 4 score condition for $180.

Lastly to Warren for the Bryan family off “Newe Park”, who sold, heavy weight crossbred wethers in a 3 & 4 score condition to the local exported for $170.

A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.
