Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of August.
Tallied numbers this week:
1300 fat cattle,
18000 lambs
4000 mutton.
Into the cattle pens firstly, where a good quality yarding was on offer with reasonable numbers of young cattle to suit the feeders and processors along with grown steers. Cows were also well supplied in a stronger market with all the usual buyers in attendance.
Prime steer yearlings sold from 503c - 554c/kg while the heifer portion sold from 520c - 540c/kg. Feeder steers gained 10 cents and ranged from 500c - 589c/kg while feeder heifers sold from 470c - 530c/kg. Restockers are becoming more and more active with young steers selling up to 649c/kg and young heifers to 602c/kg.
Grown steers were 7 cents dearer selling from 420c - 485c/kg while grown heifers remained firm to range from 400c - 470c/kg. Cows were up to 25 cents dearer due to lack of numbers throughout saleyards this week and that helped prices range from 390c - 442c/kg for the better prime heavyweights. The best heavy bull reached a top of 350c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients, well just a couple of quick quotes this week.
For the O’Neill family of ‘Nellady’ at Trangie who sold Hereford steers for 554 cents, weighing 502kgs to return $2784.
And for Hayden Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’ at Nyngan who sold Angus x heifers for 544 cents, weighing 400kgs to return $2176.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where up to 50mm of rain falling over the weekend, numbers were back considerably. Good numbers of heavy weight lambs were on offer but not the extra heavies like the previous week. Limited numbers of trades weights were on offer but there were good numbers of Merino lambs. All usual buyers were in attendance and operating.
Trade lambs were $10 cheaper compared to last week, selling from $137 - $190. Heavy weights looked to me to be $8 - $15 softer, selling from $198 - $219 and the extra heavies that were on offer eased by $10 to sell from $223 - $257. A single pen of new season lambs estimated to weigh 27kgs dress weight sold for $192.
Merino lambs were well supplied, however followed the xb trend of a cheaper market. Trade weights sold from $129 - $167. Heavy weights ranged from $171 - $185. The best heavy hoggets sold to a top of $195.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for some of their clients,
The Beard family of ‘Winfield’ at Geurie sold heavy 1st x wether lambs in a 3/4 score condition with a 2 inch skin for $199.

And for the Cook Family of ‘Glenidol’ at Tottenham who sold extra heavy Merino lambs in a 3/4 score condition with a 6 week pelt for $185
Into the mutton pens now, where numbers and prices were back. Across the board prices eased $8 - $10.
Light ewes sold from $66 - $90
Medium weight ewes sold from $113 - $148
Heavy weight ewes sold from $152 - $183
Light wethers sold from $50 - $85
