Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the last week of August 2021. Tallied numbers included –
1350 fat cattle
20000 lambs and
4500 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where some local rain was responsible for a smaller yarding this week. The market in general was fully firm for all categories, with cows and grown heifers 5-8 cents dearer due to some good quality drafts offered this week on what is still an extremely strong market.
Vealer steers in short supply and mainly to restockers 520 – 678 cents. Vealer heifers also to restockers 538-662 cents.
Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters in shorter supply 505-536 cents for the British drafts. Heavier drafts over 400kg also to feedlotters 460-567 cents, with suitable kill drafts seeing most sales between 430-552 cents.
Yearling heifers under 400kg in shorter supply with feeder drafts 490-520 cents. Heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 436-522 cents.
Into export sales with young bullocks in shorter supply 420-454 cents, with older bullocks seeing sales between 419-430 cents - mainly due to limited numbers to quote this week.
Export heifers up to 500kg - 265-378 cents, with the top end being younger, with heavier drafts over 500kg - 386-447 cents with the top end being 2-4 teeth.
Boner cows 260-345 cents, medium weight cows 327-408 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 372-410 cents and this week topping at 424 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber had the following results for their clients -
Firstly to Coonamble for the Hanigan family off ‘Hollywood’, who sold prime Angus cows that weighed 775kg for 422 cents and these top cows returned $3260, while on the same truck prime Angus heifers with their two teeth made 436 cents, weighing 660kg and these top heifers came back at $2884.
To Nyngan for John and Mary Burley off ‘Woodlands Station’, who sold Angus cows for 423 cents, they weighed 820kg and came back at $3470, while prime Angus cross vealers to kill weighing 320kg made 568 cents and these top calves came back at $1820.
While for the Weston Family off ‘Baledmund’ at Nymagee, who sold prime Hereford cows for 422 cents, weighing 645kg and these top cows came back at $2730, while prime Hereford cross heifers on the same load made 450 cents, weighing 485kg to the kill, coming back at $2180.

Into the lamb pens now where it was a larger number yarded on the back of a good market with some excellent quality lambs, regardless of breed offered on what was once again a very strong market. The market in general was $5-10 dearer for most categories with heavy weight lambs as much as $15 dearer.
Into suckers firstly, with light restocker drafts $174 to $191.
Trade weights to kill $188 to $235 with export weights $222 to $230 generally and topping at $254.
To older crossbred sales light kill types up to 16kg dressed $130 to $145
Up to 18kg dressed $150 to $160
Light trade $163 to $187
Medium trade $181 to $233
Heavy trade or light export $210 to $256
With export weights up to 30kg dressed $235 to $283 generally and up to $310
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $320 to $340 and this week topping at $360.
Into Merino sales up to 16kg dressed $110 to $145
Up to 18kg dressed $136 to $166
Light trade $150 to $180
Medium trade $170 to $198
Heavy trade $179 to $235
With export weights $212 to $247 for the lighter end with heavy weights over 26kg dressed $255 to $268.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly locally for the Whale off ‘Glenroy’ at Wellington, who sold light trade weight 2nd cross suckers for $188.
The Yeo family off ‘Lambar’ at Dubbo, sold export weight 2nd cross lambs, in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for $295.
To the Marra for the Green family of ‘Mangoplah’, who sold heavy trade weight Dohne lambs with a ¼ inch skin for $206.
To Nyngan for the Hoare family off ‘Bel-Air’, who sold light export SAMM lambs with a ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $210.
Bruce and Viv Cleaver off ‘Murrabee’, sold heavy trade weight Merino lambs with a fresh ¼ inch skin, making $193.
To Trangie for the Broughton family off ‘Jamea’, who sold light export weight Merino lambs with an inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $212.
At Tottenham for Brian and Maree Plumber off ‘Trigoona’, who sold export weight 1st cross lambs, in a 4 score condition with a 6 week skin and these top lambs made $270.
While at Bourke for Ben and Liarne Mannix off ‘Gumbooka’, who sold super heavy weight Dorper lambs in a 4 score condition and these top lambs made $283.
Into the mutton pens now, on what was a good yarding of most categories with the market fully firm.
Boner ewes $113 to $133
Medium weight ewes $131 to $184 for mainly Merino’s
Export weights $162 to $210 for crossbred or $165 to $215 for Merino’s
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $203 to $250 for crossbreds or $215 to $223 for Merino’s.
To wethers medium weights $145 to $185 and mainly Merinos,
Export weights $174 to $216
with super heavies over 30kg dressed $196 to $236.
Just a quick quote this week for the Yeo family off ‘Lambar’ at Dubbo who sold medium weight crossbred ewes with an inch skin for $162.
While for David and Simon Ward off ‘Thorndale’ at Nyngan, who sold medium weight Merino ewes with an inch skin for $170.
