Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 1st week of May, 2022. Tallied numbers this week included –
1400 fat cattle
7000 lambs
2000 mutton and
1000 store cattle.
Into the cattle pens firstly where reduced numbers were on offer. Good runs of young weaners to suit the restockers along with a better selection to suit the feeders. There were limited numbers of grown steers and heifers and cows were mixed. All the usual buyers were in attendance.
Young cattle to the trade were firm with vealers selling to 595c/kg. Prime steer yearlings sold from 560 - 594c/kg, while the heifer portion sold from 514 - 584c/kg. Feeder steers sold from 445 - 624c/kg, with breed being the main factor on price. Feeder heifers sold from 450 - 596c/kg. Restocker steers remained strong selling to a top of 818c/kg, while restocker heifers reached 613c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers were 4 cents cheaper, with the steers selling from 400 - 455c/kg and the heifers ranged from 420- 452c/kg. Cows remained firm with the better D3/4 cows selling from 330 - 365c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 320 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -
The Jeffreson Family of ‘Bell River Farm’ at Bakers Swamp, sold Angus cows for 338 cents, weighing 660kg to return $2232.
Mark Young of ‘Narranvale’ at Coolah, sold Limousin cross steers for 580 cents, weighing 362kg to come back at $2100.
And for John & Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’ at Nyngan, who sold Murray Grey steer calves, off the cow for 604 cents, weighing 347kg to return $2099.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where widespread rainfall throughout much of the supply area limited numbers for the 1st sale back after a 2 week break due to Easter and Anzac Day. A mixed yarding was on offer with some good runs of heavy weight lambs along with limited numbers of trade weights. Merino lambs were also in short supply, yet all usual buyers were in attendance and operating.
In comparison to the sale of three weeks ago, lightweight lambs remained firm to sell from $122 - $150. Trade lambs were $9 dearer ranging from $166 - $215 to average over 810c/kg dress weight. Heavy weight lambs were $8 better to sell between $212 - $248 while the extra heavy lambs sold from $245 - $260.
Merino trade weight lambs lifted $4 to sell from $140 - $172, with a pen of heavy Merino lambs making $208. The best heavy hoggets sold to a top of $204.
Just a couple of quotes this week,
Locally for David Campbell, who sold Aussie White wether lambs in a 3 score condition for $182.
And for The O’Brien family of ‘Warrengunyah’ at Wellington, who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition for $194.
Into the mutton pens now where all grades were represented in a dearer market.
Light weight ewes sold from $70 - $119
Medium weight ewes sold from $128 - $173
Heavy weight ewes sold from $185 - $232
Light weight wethers sold from $90 - $123
Medium weight wethers sold from $138 - $170
Heavy wethers sold from $190 - $218
Just a quick quote for the Whale family of ‘Glenroy’ at Wellington who sold heavy crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition for $205.
