Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of May 2022.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  1000 fat cattle
19000 lambs and
  
  5000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a rain affected market which held numbers back.  It was a good quality yarding with yearlings and weaners making up most of the numbers with the odd pen of grown heifers and steers alongside 120 cows.  

Young kill cattle were firm with prime vealers topping at 600c/kg.  Prime steer yearlings brought from 510 – 596 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 475 - 588c/kg.  Feeder steers and heifers were around firm to 5 cents cheaper, with feeder steers selling from 460 - 620c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 410 - 570c/kg.  Young restockers were firm selling to a top of 830c/kg for steers and 680c/kg for heifers.


Grown steers and heifers were up to 10 cents cheaper with the prime grown steers making from 370 – 450c/kg, while prime grown heifers brought 380 – 479 cents.  Cows were 10 cents dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 222 - 350c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 340 - 380c/kg to average around 362c/kg.

 

Just a quick quote this week for the Millner family off “Murrumbidgerie” at Geurie, who sold a draft of large frame Angus and Angus cross cows for 350 cents, they weighed in at 660kg coming back at $2310.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where numbers lifted considerably after weeks of no sales or wet sales.  It was a mixed quality yarding with some very good extra heavyweights penned alongside a large percentage of secondary lambs lacking finish - both crossbred and Merino.

Lightweight lambs to kill were $20 - $25 cheaper with 12 – 18kg 2 scores making $85 - $140. Trade weight lambs were also $20 - $25 cheaper selling from $146 - $195 to average between 730 – 745c/kg.  Heavy weight lambs were $15 - $20 cheaper with 24 – 30kg lambs bringing from $180 - $229 to average 745c/kg.  Lambs over 30kg sold from $230 - $286 to average 730c/kg.  Merinos were $15 cheaper with the trade weights making from $132 -$158 while the heavy weights sold from $186 - $220.  

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Firstly to Nyngan for the Hoare family off “Karabran”, who sold SAMM lambs in a fresh 3 score condition for $185.

In the same district for the McConochie family off “Mirilba”, who sold heavy weight crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition, with a November skin for $226.

To Gulargambone for Col Ryan off “Mayfield”, who sold crossbred lambs in a fresh condition, off the grain to the domestic kill for $188.

To Wongarbon for the Walters family off “Plain Creek”, who sold well bred crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with a 1 inch skin for $196.

Lastly to Wellington for the Whale family off “Glenroy”, who sold 2nd cross lambs out of the feedlot with an 8 week skin for $200 to the domestic kill.

 

Into the mutton pens now, where there was a larger percentage of plainer sheep penned, that saw lightweight sheep $12 cheaper while the medium weights were unchanged and heavyweights slightly dearer.

Lightweight Merino’s $80 - $120
Medium weight Merino’s $120 - $160
Heavy weight Merino’s $170 - $200
Crossbreds sold from $140 - $230
And Merino wethers brought $120 - $170.

Just a quick quote this week for the Gibson family off “Wilgadale” at Girilambone, who sold well bred Merino ewes with a 1 ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $166.
