Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the first week of July 2020.  Tallied numbers this week included –

2700 fat cattle
11800 lambs and

3000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a good quality yarding with a fair selection of young trade cattle and some good well finished grown steers & heifers.  There were also some good pens of feeders alongside a large number of cows penned.

Young trade cattle were 5 to 10 cents cheaper with prime steers yearlings making 385 to 410 cents, while the prime heifers topped at 406 cents.  Feeders were 8 to 10 cents dearer with the steer portion bringing 362 to 426 cents, while the feeder heifers made 356 to 409 cents.  Limited number of young restocker calves penned but sold to strong demand. Prime grown steers and heifers were 10 cents cheaper, with the steers selling from 330 to 388 cents, while the grown heifer portion sold from 310 to 390 cents.  Cows were 13 cents cheaper with the medium weight cows making between 244 and 294 cents, while the heavy weight cows sold for 287 to 314 cents and averaged 302 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to the Nyngan district for John & Mary Burley off ‘Woodlands Station’, who sold heavy Angus cows weighing 735kg for 303 cents, coming back at $2228.
To Baradine for the McConnaughty Family off ‘Elstow’, who sold large framed Charolais cows making 305 cents, weighing 698kg bringing $2124.
To Tottenham for Merv & Anne O’Hara off ‘Dunrovin’, who sold 3 & 4 score Angus cows weighing 671kg for 300 cents, coming back at $2015.
Now to Dubbo for the Grattan family, who sold Angus steers for 458 cents, weighing 343kg making $1573.
And lastly to Wellington for Paul Vernon off ‘Gunners Dam’, who sold Angus heifers weighing 471kg for 380 cents, coming back at $1790.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was another good quality yarding with good numbers of well finished lambs and odd pen of trade weights, alongside some properly finished Merino lambs.  

Lightweight lambs to kill were $6 cheaper and sold from $125 to $161.
Trade lambs were $5 to $10 cheaper and made from $150 to $198 to average between 770c - 820c/kg.
Heavy weight lambs were up to $8 cheaper selling between $177 and $236 to average 730c/kg.
Merino lambs were $5 to $10 cheaper with trade weights making $140 to $173 while the heavy weights brought $174 to $205 while restockers were firm with not many on offer making $141 to $155.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to Coonamble for Jason Beck, who sold 3 score crossbred lambs with a 1/4 inch skin for $190.
Now to Warren for the Earl family of ‘Longstowe’, who sold Merino wether lambs with an inch and 1/2 skin for $168.
Now to Dubbo for Paul & Carmel Quinn, who sold first cross Dorper lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $183.
Just down the highway to Geurie for the Johnston family, who sold Merino wether lambs with an inch skin in a 3 score condition for $155.
In the same district for Phillip Hubbard off ‘Kainga’, who sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition for $210.
Lastly to Euchareena for Brian Brazier off ‘Wombang’, who sold Merino wether lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition with a 1 inch skin for $140.

Now in the mutton pens, where it was a good quality yarding.  Light and medium weight Merino ewes were $10 dearer while heavy weight ewes were firm.  Lightweight ewes sold from $110 to $152 with medium weight ewes making $150 to $180 while heavy weight ewes brought $177 to $210.  Best wethers this week made $223.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -
Firstly to Coolabah for the Edwards family of ’Tubbavilla’ who sold heavy Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $199.
Now to Warren on the same truck as the lambs for the Earl family off ‘Longstowe’, who sold heavy Merino wethers with an inch skin for $166.
Lastly to Dubbo for the Cullenward family, who sold heavy Merino wethers with 1/2 inch skin, in a 3 & 4 score condition for $196.
