Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the last week of June.
Tallied numbers this week included,
1500 Fat cattle
7500 lambs and
2300 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where a good quality yarding was on offer. A large number of cattle are really starting to show the benefits of early crops and better feed. Trade cattle were well supplied and there were some quality runs of cows.
Young cattle to the kill were dearer with vealer steers selling from 370 to 423 cents, as the heifer portion sold from 360 to 420 cents. Light feeder cattle were 8 cents dearer, as the steers sold from 402 to 447 cents and the heifer portion selling to a top of 403 cents. Heavy feeder steers were down by 10 cents to sell from 378 to 411 cents. Heavy heifers to feed gained 5 cents to sell to a top of 408 cents.
Grown steers and heifers were dearer right across the board. Heifers sold from 340 to 407 cents, while the steer portion ranged from 350 to 401 cents, with those prices varying on teeth (4, 6 & 8). Cows had the biggest lift, up by 15 cents, with the 2 scores selling from 270 to 293 cents and prime heavy weight cows selling from 295 to 332 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Locally for Richard & Verity Edgley at Dubbo, who sold Hereford cows for 306 cents, weighing 610kg to come back at $1866.
Billy Carter of “Strathmore” at Geurie, sold Angus heifers for 403 cents, weighing 490kg to return $1975.
Robert & Trish Scott of “Glenroy” at Yeoval, sold Limousin steers for 459 cents, weighing 259kg to return $1189.
And for The Leven Family at Gulgong, who sold Angus steers for 417 cents, weighing 335kg to return $1397.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where we saw a fair selection of trade weight lambs and well finished Merino’s – limited heavy weight lambs were on offer this week and nowhere near the numbers we saw last week.
Light lambs to the kill were $5 dearer selling from $128 to $165
Medium trade weights saw a dearer trend this week – up to $6 to range from $157 to $187
Heavy trade remained firm to range from $186 to $205
The limited heavy weight lambs that were on offer did not spark increase interest which saw prices drop by $10 and ranged from $192 to $212.
Merino lambs lifted $8 which the trade weights selling from $164 to $178 and the heavy weights topping out at $182.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
John Blease of “Tanners Creek” at Tomingley, sold trade weight Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $170.
Suze White of “Cardington” at Molong, sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition with a ½ inch skin for $168.
To Nyngan now for Garry Frankham of “River Ridge”, who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 and 4 score condition, to the export orders for $210.
The George Family of “The Corners”, sold medium trade weight White Suffolk cross lambs in a 3 score condition, to the supermarket orders for $182.
And for The Hoare Family of “Bel-Air”, who sold SAMM wether lambs in a 3 and 4 score condition for $192.
Into the mutton pens now, where we saw a cheaper market across all categories with the heavy end the hardest hit.
Light ewes sold from $114 to $130
Medium weight ewes sold from $143 to $175
Heavy ewes sold from $188 to $198
Light wethers sold from $135 to $150
Medium weight wethers sold from $160 to $182
Heavy wethers sold from $195 to $210
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients –
The Hull Family of “Hughenden” at Gulargambone, sold Merino wethers in a 2 score condition for $132.
And for The Matchett Family of “Budgery” at Hermidale, who sold crossbred wethers in a 4 score condition for $170.
