Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Monday’s sheep and lamb sale saw a total yarding of 13000 lambs and 4200 mutton for an increased yarding after a 2 week break.
It was a very good quality yarding of well finished stock. All buyers were present and operating, however they were very selective on export weight lambs, therefore reducing competition.
Trade lamb orders filled quickly as the sale progressed and restockers remained cautious of a falling lamb market.
Lambs to return to the paddock topped at $180 and averaged $146.
Light weight lambs to processors remain relatively strong and topped at $192.
Quality crossbred lambs to the supermarket trade averaged between $175 and $202 a head or 797c/kg topping at $215. These lambs were back by around $10 to 15 a head on the previous market.
Heavy export weight lambs fell by as much as $20 to $30 a head to average between $216 and $239.
Mutton topped at $250 for the best heavy crossbred ewes, whilst Merino ewes with a nice 1 ½ inch skin topped at $223.
Plainer conditioned Merino’s in a 2-3 score with similar skin value sold from $140 to $173.
Light ewes sold to a bottom of $92 and averaged between $119 and $126.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
The Kelly Family from the Marocara Dorset Stud at Wongarbon topped our sale with some heavy crossbred lambs for $240.
The Hoare family from “Bel-Air” at Nyngan sold a nice run of SAMM cross trade weight lambs to the Nyngan butchery for $198.

The Whale family from Wellington sold 2nd cross lambs back to the paddock for $180.
The Whillock family from Geurie sold 3 score export weight lambs with a 1 ½ inch skin for $215.
And for Simon Ward from Nyngan, who sold light crossbred trade weight woolly lambs to the processor for $192.
Don’t forget our weekly reports from the sales are on Facebook.
And more importantly don’t forget to watch the mighty eels stick it up the chooks on Saturday night.
Have a great weekend.
