Fat Cattle Report
Good morning this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly Livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of October. Tallied numbers this week included –
2000 fat cattle
6500 lambs and
1700 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where some big rain and focus on harvest, numbers where back by 1000. A mixed quality yarding with a good selection of prime cattle and a consignment of Brahman cross cows and their weaner calves.
Yearling steers sold from 384 - 442c/kg, while the heifer yearlings sold from 375 - 449c/kg. Feeder cattle were 12 cents stronger with the steers selling from 388 - 456c/kg, while the heifers that were very limited sold from 398 - 450c/kg. Restockers lifted the market by 15 cents with steers reaching 645c/kg and heifers topping at 724c/kg. A line of Brahman weaners sold to 602c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers were limited and dearer by 10 cents, the steer portion sold from 340 - 401c/kg and the heifers sold from 324 - 381c/kg. Cows once again held strong and looked dearer this week with the D3/4 cows selling from 295 - 318c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 344 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -
Locally for Craig & Kerry Walters of “Plain Creek” at Wongarbon, who sold Angus steers for 425 cents, they weighed 517kg and returned $2190.
The McKay family of “Winnabri” at Warren, sold Angus cross steers for 430 cents, weighing 472kg to return $2029.
And for John & Mary Burley of “Woodlands Station” at Nyngan, who sold Angus cross cows for 306 cents, they weighed 529kg to return $1620.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the Lamb pens now, where rain across large parts of the supply area reduce numbers and quality. All the usual buyers were in attendance in a firm to slightly dearer market.
Trade weight suckers where $5 better this week - selling from $173 to $205. Trade weight old season lambs sold from $150 to $200 that’s firm on last week’s rates. Heavy lambs were $3 better ranging from $205 to $249, which works out to be 760 – 800 cents. Merino lambs had the biggest jump this week - up $14 for trades to sell from $142 to $195 and heavy Merino lambs selling to a top of $221.
Restockers where very active on suitable lambs and Hoggets sold to a top of $216.
Into the mutton pens now, where a small but good quality yarding was offered, with medium weight sheep $5 dearer and heavy weights remaining firm.
Light ewes sold from $88 to $120
Medium weight ewes sold from $131 to $173
Heavy weight ewes sold from $185 to $250
Light wethers sold from $122 to $148
Medium weight wethers sold from $154 to $197
Heavy wethers sold from $210 to $264.

Paul & Carmel Quinn of “Caroo” at Dubbo sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $188.
Mark & Samantha Johnston from Eumungerie sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $197.
Jon & Helen Matchett of “Budgery” at Hermidale, sold heavy crossbred wethers in a 4 score condition for a sale topping $264.
