Fat Cattle Report 

Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of February. Tallied numbers this week included -

9000 lambs
7000 mutton &
2700 fat cattle

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a very good quality yarding with vealers and yearlings suitable for both the feeders and processors. Grown steers and heifers were well supplied as were cows with the market firm to slightly dearer across all grades.

Prime vealers sold to a top of 580c/kg. Prime steer yearlings sold from 430 - 570 cents, while the heifer portion sold from 470 - 560 cents. Feeder steers and heifers were 8 cents dearer with the steers portion selling from 460 - 607 cents and the feeder heifers sold from 450 - 575 cents. Young steers and heifers back to the paddock remained firm with the steers reaching 708 cents and heifers topping at 648 cents.

Grown steers sold from 421 - 484 cents while the heifers made from 416 - 504 cents. Cows were 3 cents dearer with the prime heavy weight cows selling from 379 - 415 cents. The best heavy bull reached a top of 340 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -

The Hegarty family of ‘Belvedere’ at Cassilis, sold 2 tooth Hereford x heifers for 485 cents, weighing 422kg to return $2048.

Mark Young of ‘Narranvale’ at Coolah, sold Limousin x steers for 567 cents, they weighed 424kg to return $2405.

The Crook Family at Eumungerie, sold Angus steers for 585 cents, weighing 453kg to come back at $2652.

The Walters family of ‘Plain Creek’ at Wongarbon, sold milk tooth Angus bullocks for 560 cents, weighing 533kg to return $2989.

Locally for David Hearn of ‘San Diego’ who sold a top run of Angus feeder steers for 596 cents, they weighed 488kgs to return $2914.

Randall & Kylie Carlow at Gilgandra, sold Angus cows for 386 cents, weighing a massive 825kgs to return $3186.

To Nyngan now for John & Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station”, who sold Charolais x steers for 560 cents, they weighed 415kg to return $2324.

Claire Hudleston of ‘Yarrendale’, sold Angus x bullocks for 450 cents, weighing 675kg to return $3038.

And lastly for the Harvey Family of ‘Glenhaven’ at Coonamble, who sold Angus cows for 394 cents, weighing 680kg to return $2680.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report 

Into the lamb pens now where a mixed yarding was on offer. There were large runs of secondary crossbred and Dorper lambs penned. Merino lambs were limited in supply. All usual buyers were in attendance and operating.

Trade lambs were $9 cheaper selling from $140 - $220. Heavy weight lambs lifted $8, selling from $212 - $266. Merino lambs lost $6 as the trade weights sold from $147 - $172 and the heavy weights selling from $175 - $188. The best heavy hoggets sold to a top of $196.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Locally for Graham and Kel Lovell at Terramungamine, who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition with a half inch skin for $195.

Paul & Carmel Quinn of ‘Caroo’ at Dubbo, sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill orders for $181.

Phil Hubbard of ‘Kainga’ at Wellington, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 4 score condition for $233.

And for Darren Smith of ‘Kurrajong Park’ at Narromine, who sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition to the export orders for $246

Into the mutton pens now where all grades were represented.

Light ewes sold from $60 - $100
Medium weight ewes sold from $128 - $170
Heavy weight ewes sold from $178 - $214

Light wethers sold from $96 - $103
Medium weight wethers sold from $132 - $159
Heavy weight wethers sold from $182 - $208

Just a couple of quick quotes this week for Simon & Kelly Earl of ‘Longstowe’ at Warren, who sold Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for $190.

And lastly for The George Family of ‘The Corners’ at Nyngan, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $180.
