Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of September. Tallied numbers this week included -
2000 fat cattle
17000 lambs
5000 mutton
400 store cattle
Into the cattle pens firstly where numbers were back by 1300. Good numbers of prime young cattle to suit the processors along with some good pens of feeder cattle. Grown steers and heifers were well supplied as were cows.
Young cattle to the trade remained firm to sell from 514 - 568c/kg. Prime steer yearlings sold from 486 - 564c/kg, prime heifers sold from 450 - 574c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were 5 cents dearer as the steers sold to a top of 585 cents and the best of the heifers reached 548 cents. Restockers were limited and price reflected the quality with steers topping at 645 cents and heifers selling to 654 cents.
Grown steers were 10 cents dearer with the best selling to 516 cents, while the heifers sold to 535 cents. Cows were 6 cents dearer to sell to a top of 430 cents. The best heavy bull reached a top of 350c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Warren Piper of ‘Cabin Downs’ at Uarbry, sold Hereford steers for 566 cents, weighing 440kg to come back at $2491.
Howard & Kate Courts of ‘Glenalbyn’ at Wellington, sold Santa cows for 410 cents, weighing a massive 789kg to return $3234.
And for Bonnie Millner of ‘Geurie Homestead’ at Geurie, who sold milk and 2 tooth Charolais steers for 469 cents, weighing 621kg to return $2915.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now where a quality yarding with good selections of heavy weight lambs along with suitable pens of trade weights and new season lambs were on offer in a dearer market.
Trade weight new season lambs were $10 dearer selling from $156 - $203. Trade weight old lambs were $8 dearer to range from $140 - $188. Heavy weight lambs were $12 stronger to sell from $189 - $226. Extra heavyweights sold from $210 - $253. Merino lambs lifted $9 across the board. Trade weights sold from $113 - $176, while the heavy weights reached a top of $205. The best heavy hoggets sold to $192.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for some of their clients -
The Bambrick family of ‘Jocyln’ at Mudgee, sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $155.
The Whale family of ‘Glenroy’ at Wellington sold 2nd cross suckers in a 3 score condition, to the domestic kill for $203.
Locally for David Campbell at Dubbo, who sold Aussie White wether lambs in a 4 score condition for $174.
Ross Yeo of ‘Lambar’ also at Dubbo, sold 2nd cross suckers in a fresh condition for $196.
To Tottenham now for the Cook family of ‘Glenidol’, who sold heavy Merino lambs in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for $196.
The Plummer family of ‘Trigoona’ sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $187.
Warwick & Margaret Herbert of ‘Lyndon’ at Nyngan, sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition with a 1 ½ inch skin for $206.
And for Jon & Helen Matchett of ‘Budgery’ at Hermidale, who sold crossbred lambs, neatly shorn in a 3 score condition for $202
Into the mutton pens now where the market was slightly cheaper.
Light ewes sold from $85 - $113
Medium weight ewes sold from $127 - $163
Heavy weight ewes sold from $170 - $182.
Light wethers sold from $115 - $133
Medium weight wethers sold from $140 - $177
Heavy weight wethers sold from $180 - $201.
