Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 4th week of April 2020. Tallied numbers this week included –
700 fat cattle
9000 lambs and
2800 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where young cattle and cows made up the majority of the yarding with mixed quality and condition, with all processors, feedlotters and restockers operating.
Young trade steers and heifers were firm. Yearling steers made from 309 - 402c/kg while the heifers brought 256 - 391c/kg. Heavy feeder steers and heifers lost 5-10c/kg making between 303 - 330c/kg. Young restocker calves sold to dear trends with lightweight steers maxing out at 558c/kg while the heifers brought from 345 - 500c/kg.
Cows saw no change, with heavy weight 3 & 4 score cows making up to 288c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows brought from 230 - 268c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Locally for Rodney Pascoe off ‘Pine Hill’ at Tomingley, who sold Charolais cross cows weighing 450kg for 273 cents making $1231.
Now to Mendooran for Josh & Brianna Birks off ‘Yarrow’, who sold Hereford cross steers making 558 cents weighing 112kg coming back at $627.
Across to Gulgong for the Wood Family, who sold Santa Angus cross steers bring 396 cents and they weighed 357kg making $1417.
Lastly for the Nitschke Family off ‘Volo Station’ at Wilcannia, who sold Red Angus feeder steers weighing 366kg making 395 cents bringing $1447.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where there was good competition on the better lambs from the processors while the secondary types where chased by the feed orders.
Lambs to the restockers were slightly dearer making from $70 to $160. The trade lambs were firm and made from $165 to $205 and averaged between 860-900c/kg carcass weight. Heavy weight lambs were $5 to $10 cheaper ranging from $200 to $272 averaging 780-850c/kg carcass.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to Nyngan for the Hoare family off ‘Bel-Air’, who sold heavy crossbred lambs with a 1/4 inch skin for $205.
Now to Baradine for Brad Purdy, who sold fresh Dorper lambs in a 4 score condition for $218.
And lastly to Wellington for James & Jules Jackson off ’Narroogal’ who sold Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition for $176
Into the mutton pens now, where it was a mixed yarding with all grades selling to a dearer trend to average 670-720c/kg. Merino ewes sold from $110 and topped at $201 while the crossbred ewes brought from $95 to $272. Large numbers of wethers were penned throughout the yarding making from $120 to $266.

Firstly to Baradine for the Botfield family, who sold heavy Aussie White wethers in 4 score condition for $226.
And to Geurie the Johnston family, who sold Merino wethers with an inch skin for $153.
