Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 1st week of April, 2022. Tallied numbers this week included -

2000 fat cattle
13200 lambs and
7200 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where good numbers of young cattle to suit the feeders and processors, with limited numbers of grown steers and fair numbers of grown heifers. Cows were well supplied with all regular orders operating.

Young cattle to the trade remained firm with prime vealers selling from 520 - 602 cents. Prime steer yearlings sold from 530 - 580 cents while prime heifer yearlings sold from 450 - 560 cents. The best of the feeder cattle were firm on last week’s rates with the steer portion selling to 629 cents while the heifers sold to a top of 568 cents. Restockers remained strong with young steers selling to 820 cents and young heifers making 658 cents.
Grown steers were 5 cents dearer selling from 420 - 474 cents, while grown heifers sold from 430 - 485 cents. Cows lost 15 cents as the D3/4 cows sold from 350 - 388 cents. The best heavy bulls reached a top of 320 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -

Sam Lemon of ‘Yurunga’ at Apsley, sold Angus steers for 620 cents, weighing 416kg to come back at $2584.
The Miller Family at Orton Park, sold Droughtmaster steers for 460 cents, weighing 453kg to return $2084.
To Stuart Town now for Ben & Cloe Lawson of ‘Monte Carlo’, who sold Santa/Angus cross steers for 614 cents, they weighed 365kg to come back at $2245.
The West Family of ‘Glengarry’, sold Angus cross steers for 610 cents, weighing 364kg to return $2222.
Bonnie Millner of ‘Geurie Homestead’ at Geurie, sold Charolais cross cows for 370 cents, weighing 661kg to come back at $2446.
Justin & Kate O’Brien of ‘Oriel’ at Tottenham, sold 2 and 4 tooth Santa Gertrudis steers for 453 cents, weighing 626kg to return $2840.
The Gibson family of ‘Wilgadale’ at Girilambone, sold Hereford heifers for 508 cents, they weighed 387kg to return $1969.
And lastly for the Dewhurst Family of ‘Elmsley’ at Hermidale, who sold milk tooth Angus cross steers for 510 cents, weighing 501kg to return $2558.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now and a much larger yarding was on offer, all the usual buyers were in attendance and operating in a cheaper market.

Trade lambs were $5 softer this week selling from $144 - $198. Heavy weight lambs lost $6 to sell from $198 - $236. Extra heavy lambs also eased - by $10 to range from $236 - $264. Merino lambs were limited in supply and the trade weights lost $5 selling from $125 - $155. The best heavy hoggets sold for $217.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Locally for Doug Bambrick who sold Dorper lambs in a 2 and 3 score condition for $145.
To Wongarbon now for Greg & Vicki O’Connor of ‘Warren Downs’, who sold heavy Dorset cross lambs in a 4 score condition for $253.
Craig & Kerry Walters of ‘Plain Creek’, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 4 score condition with a 1 ½ inch skin for $236.
The Whillock Family of ‘Maxland’ at Geurie, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 3 score condition and an inch skin for $233.
Sam & Penny Deshon of ‘Rocklee’ at Wellington, sold Aussie White wether lambs in a 3 score condition for $170.
And for The George Family of ‘The Corners’ at Nyngan, who sold Dorset cross lambs in a 3 score condition and a 12 week skin for $177.


Into the mutton pens now where all light and medium weights were $12 cheaper and the heavy weights were $7 dearer.
Light ewes sold from $50 - $115
Medium weight ewes sold from $123 - $178
Heavy ewes sold from $187 - $223
Light wethers sold from $90 - $120
Medium weight wethers sold from $122 - $168
Heavy wethers sold from $170 - $230.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -


The Hotchkiss family of ‘Pinedale’ at Baradine, sold Merino ewes in a 2 score condition for $118.
The Plummer Family of ‘Trigoona’ at Tottenham, sold merino ewes in a 3/4 score condition and a 12 week skin for $175.
The McKay family of ‘Winnabri’ at Trangie, sold crossbred ewes in a 3 score condition to the exporters for $177.
And lastly for Patrick Hertslet of ‘Wingalah’ at Brewarrina, who sold crossbred wethers in a 4 score condition for $217.
