Fat Cattle Report

Good morning everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the fourth week of October 2020.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  2900 fat cattle
11000 lambs and
 3000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a smaller number compared to previous weeks, on what was still a strong market.  In general the market was dearer for trade and feeder cattle - seeing rises of between 5 and 10 cents, with most other categories firm.

Vealer steers in short supply and mainly to restocker – 458 to 478 cents, while heifers 415 to 448 cents.  Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters were very strong – 400 to 457 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg 375 to 434 cents.  Yearling heifers under 400kg to kill in short supply – 406 to 426 cents, with feeder drafts 360 to 419 cents for the pick, with heavier feeder weights over 400kg – 369 to 423 cents, or 370 to 420 cents to kill.  Heavy feeder steers up to 500kg in shorter supply seeing sales between 364 and 405 cents.  Young bullocks – 365 to 385 cents, with mature aged bullocks 340 to 376 cents.  Medium weight cows – 260 to 290 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 270 and 305 and this week topping at 320 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly, for Elwyn & Rachel Perry of “Allandale” at Geurie, who sold fresh Angus calves that weighed 310kg for 476 cents and these top calves returned $1480.

Sam & Penny Deshon sold Angus steers that weighed 428kg for 433 cents to feedlotters and these top calves returned $1855.

The Crockett Family of “Nithsdale” at Wellington, sold CFA Angus bulls that weighed 705kg for 365 cents and they came back at $2580.

Kel & Jenny Baker of “Ercildoon” at Narromine, sold Angus cross bullocks for 380 cents, they weighed 575kg and these top steers came back at $2180.

John & Mary Burley of “Woodlands Station” at Nyngan, sold Angus cross cows for 302 cents, they weighed 530kg to return $1595.

While for The Weston Family of “Baledmund” at Nymagee, who sold Rangemaster cross steers to feedlotters for 405 cents, they weighed 405kg and they came back at $1670.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good yarding of lambs, where the market in general was $10 to $12 cheaper on the back of an extremely strong market the week before, on what I believe is still a strong market.

Intosuckers firstly, with light weights to restockers $125 to $146
Light trade weights to restockers $149 to $158
Medium trade up to 22kg dressed $168 to $187
Heavy trade $176 to $190
With export weights seeing most sales between $188 and $208 and this week topping at $215 and they were very good.

Into older crossbred sales, light kill types up to 16kg dressed $125 to $140
Light trade weights up to 20kg dressed $154 to $174
Heavy trade $168 to $190
With export weights seeing most sales between $180 and $235
With super heavies in excess of over 30kg dressed $227 to $258

Into Merino sales, light kill types $130 to $142
Light trade $142 to $150
Heavy trade $148 to $172
With export weights $165 to $179
With extra heavies up towards 30kg dressed $185 to $213

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

Firstly, locally for Bob & Robin Hubbard of “Tanna” at Wellington, who sold 2nd cross suckers – over 50kg live and these tidy lambs made $185.

Paul & Carmel Quinn of “Caroo” at Dubbo, sold heavy trade weight Dorper lambs in a rock hard 3 score condition and they made $180.

Craig & Kerry Walters of “Plain Creek” at Wongarbon, sold export weight crossbred lambs, in a 4 score condition, with a6 week skin and these top lambs made $200.

Viv & Suz White of “Cardington” at Molong, sold Merino lambs with a 6 week skin, in a 4 score condition and these top lambs made $179.

While for Adam & Billie-Jean Altus of “Wyndorah” at Coonamble, who sold large framed Merino wether lambs, with a ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition and they made $196.

Into the mutton pens now, where a good quality yarding of mutton where unlike the lambs, saw good rises of between $10 and $15 on what was a very strong market.

Boner ewes $85 to $108
Medium weights $163 to $176 for Merino’s or $148 to $160 for crossbreds
Export weights $170 to $216 for crossbreds, or $170 to $200 for Merino’s
With super heavies all over 30kg dressed $200 to $259 for crossbreds, or $190 to $220 for Merino’s.

Medium weight Merino wethers $149 to $175
Export weights $173 to $210 for Merino’s, or $210 to $220 for crossbreds
With super heavy wethers and mainly all crossbreds estimated to weigh over 30kg dressed $192 to $268.

Just a quick quote for Jon & Helen Matchett of “Budgery” at Hermidale, who sold large framed crossbred wethers with a 4 week skin, ringing the bell this week for $268.
