Fat Cattle Report 

Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of December. Tallied numbers this week included -

2000 fat cattle
8000 lambs and
6000 mutton


Into the cattle pens firstly where despite regular falls of rain and storms throughout the supply area numbers lifted slightly for a good quality yarding. Young cattle to suit the feedlot and processors were well supplied and there were also good numbers of grown steers but only limited numbers of grown heifers and cows. A full field of buyers were in attendance and operating.

Young cattle to the trade were 12 cents dearer with prime vealers selling to 612c/kg. Prime steer yearlings sold from 500 to 580 cents, while the prime heifer yearlings sold from 480 to 598c/kg. Feeder steers remained firm and sold from 466 to 628 cents, while the feeder heifers lost 10 cents to sell from 422 to 597c/kg.

Grown steers were 6 cents dearer while grown heifers were 8 cents cheaper with quality a factor. Prime grown steers sold from 410 to 490 cents, while grown heifers sold from 400 to 452c/kg. Cows lost 15 cents with the prime heavy weight cows selling from 360 to 398 cents. The best heavy bull reached a top of 362c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -

Locally for Todd Owens at Dubbo who sold Angus cross steers for 606 cents, they weighed 420kg to come back at $2546.

Stephen & Amanda Spinks of ‘Brinawa’ at Gulargambone, sold heavy Angus bullocks for 452 cents, they weighed an impressive 700kgs to return $3165.

Jeremy & Audrey Weston of ‘Nhill Gully’ at Warren, sold Angus steers for 612 cents, weighing 450kg to return $2759.

Roger Anderson at Cobar, sold Santa Gertrudis steers for 606 cents, they weighed 367kg to return $2227.

And lastly for Wes Roberts of ‘Darling Farms’ at Bourke, who sold Angus cross male calves for 905 cents, they weighed 170kg to return $1544.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report 

Into the lamb pens now where reduced numbers saw prices lift for the crossbreds while the Merino yarding lost a few dollars. Trade weight new season lambs were $7 better, selling from $172 - $220. Trade weight old lambs lifted by $8 to range from $160 - $230. Heavy weight lambs gained $10 to sell from $206 - $284. Merino lambs lost $5 as the trade weights sold from $150 - $180 and the heavy weights reached a top of $215. The best heavy hoggets reached $208.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

The Lawson Family of ‘Monte Carlo’ at Stuart Town, sold shorn crossbred lambs in a 2 and 3 score condition to the restocker for $184.

Stephen Bambrick of ‘Joycleen’ at Mudgee, sold Dorper cross lambs in a 2 and 3 score condition for $160.

Locally for the Pilon Family of ‘Chloe’, who sold heavy 2nd cross lambs in a 4 score condition for a sale topping $284.

Phil Hubbard of ‘Kainga’ at Wellington, sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition with a half inch skin for $230.

Mat & Clancy Paine of ‘Wongaroo’ at Narromine, sold trade weight Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $220

Matthew Scott of ‘Gum Valley” at Warren, sold Dorper cross lambs in a 3 score condition for $226.

And for The McConnaughty family of ‘Elstow’ at Baradine, who sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $184.

Into the mutton pens now where the ewe portion remained firm and the wether portion lifted $8.

Light weight ewes sold from $84 - $125
Medium weight ewes sold from $138 - $180
Heavy weight ewes sold from $196 - $231

Light weight wethers sold from $68 - $116
Medium weight wethers sold from $141 - $175
Heavy weight wethers sold from $191 - $234.

Just a quick quote this week for Bridie Dunn of ‘Bundong Station’ at Coolabah, who sold heavy Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for $190.
