Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of October 2020. Tallied numbers this week included –
3800 fat cattle
18,900 lambs and
5000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a mixed quality yarding with good numbers of fat cattle across all categories. There were some good runs of well finished steers and heifers penned.
Young kill cattle were 5 cents cheaper with prime vealers selling to 443c/kg. Prime steers yearlings brought 378 – 428 cents while the prime heifers yearlings made 360 – 420 cents. Overall feeder cattle finished the day up to 10 cents dearer. Feeder steers brought 373 - 430c/kg while the feeder heifers made 350 - 420c/kg. Both steer and heifer restockers were dearer with steer yearlings selling from 416 - 449c/kg and the heifer yearlings brought 333 - 436c/kg. Young restocker steer calves topping at 590 cents and heifers at 452 cents. Grown steers saw no changed while the grown heifers were 10 cents dearer with prime steers selling from 310 – 385 cents, while prime grown heifers brought 326 - 385c/kg. All Cows were 5 – 10 cents cheaper, the medium 2 & 3 score cows bringing 265 – 295 cents, while the prime heavy weights made 294 - 327c/kg finishing the day averaging 309c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Hermidale for the Fennamore Family off ’Babinda’, who sold Santa cross steers for 380 cents, weighing in at 375kg making $1425.
Now to Nyngan for Doug & Katrina Menzies off ’Summerlea’ who sold a well bred line of Charolais cross steers for 379 cents, weighing 581kg bringing $2205.
To Tottenham now for Ian & Roz McFadyen off ‘Killarney’, who sold Charolais cross steers weighing 920kg for 325 cents, coming back at $2990.
Down the road to Warren for the McLaughlin family off ‘Merryanbone North’, who sold Angus steers that made 395 cents, they weighed 541kg coming back at over $2139.
Now to Geurie for Elwyn & Rachel Perry off ’Allandale’, who sold heavy well bred Angus cows weighing 750kg for 314 cents and they came back at $2355.
Lastly down the highway to Wellington for the Jeffreson Family off ‘Bell River’, who sold Angus steers for 443 cents, they weighed 367kg making $1626.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good yarding with a fair selection of both trade and heavy weight new & old season.
Trade suckers were $4 - $9 dearer selling from $168 - $210 to average between 830 - 880c/kg. Trade lambs sold from $153 - $196. Heavy weight lambs were $10 dearer with the 24-30kg bringing $178 - $236, while the over 30kg lambs brought $230 - $280 averaging 750c/kg. Heavy weight suckers topped $250. Merino lambs were $5 dearer with the trade weights selling from $140 - $183 while the heavy weights made $173 - $235.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to Coolabah for the Edwards family off ’Tubbavilla’, who sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $259.
To Tottenham now for Phillip & Melinda Mills off ‘Warrah’, who sold heavy crossbred suckers in a 3 & 4 score condition for $197.
In the Geurie district now for Bob & Robin Hubbard off ‘Tanna’, who sold fresh crossbred suckers in a 2 & 3 condition for $218.
Down the highway to Wellington for Stewart & Anne Edwards off ‘Catombal Park’, who sold Merino wether lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $180.
Lastly across to Yeoval for Bruce & Vicki Lees, who sold heavy crossbred lambs, fresh off the board for $193.
Now in the mutton pens, where it was a good quality yarding where most grades of mutton were $10 dearer. Merino ewes made from $130 - $206, while crossbred ewes sold for $166 - $228. Merino wethers sold from $154 - $229.
Just a quick quote this week, for Jean Dunn off ‘Bundong’ at Coolabah, who sold heavy Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with a 1/2 inch skin for $176/head.
