Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of April, 2025. 

Tallied numbers this week included  -

4300 fat cattle
19000 lambs and
15000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where a good quality yarding greeted all usual buyers.  Young trade cattle were well supplied, with increased numbers of grown cattle on offer. There were also good numbers of cows and their weaners.
Young cattle to the trade were 7 cents better with prime vealers and yearlings selling from 340c - 400c/kg.  

Feeder steers lifted 8 cents, selling from 360 - 425c/kg, while the heifer portion sold from 315 - 381c/kg.  

Restocker cattle continue to attract plenty of competition with young steers selling to 472 cents, and young heifers selling to 372 cents.
Grown steers and heifers remained firm on last week’s rates.  Grown steers sold from 345 - 411c/kg and grown heifers sold from 325 - 392c/kg.


Cows lost 15 cents, with the better D3/4 cows selling from 280 - 323c/kg.  The best heavy bull reached a top of 333 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -

The Cox family of ‘Sunny Holme’ at Eumungerie, sold Angus steers for 416 cents, weighing 418kg to return $1740.

Locally for the Hangan Family of ‘Nagnah Downs’ at Dubbo, who sold Angus steers for 417 cents, weighing 491kg to come back at $2051.

Lastly for John & Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’ at Nyngan, who sold Murray Grey steers for 388 cents, weighing 430kg to return $1669.


Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where numbers lifted and quality was mixed. Neat short skins are still the flavour with competition still high on well presented lines.

Lightweight lambs sold from $90 - $128
Trade lambs sold to a cheaper trend, selling from $140 - $180
Heavy weight lambs sold from $210 - $276
Merino trade weight lambs sold from $140 - $174
Restocker lambs sold to a top of $144 and hoggets reached $197.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for some of their clients -

Locally for the Stimpson Family of ‘Medway Park’ at Dubbo, who sold Merino Lambs in a 2 score condition with a 2 inch skin for $105.

The Whale Family of ‘Glenroy’ at Wellington, sold crossbred lambs in a neat 3 score condition, with a half inch skin for $223.

To Narromine for the Baker Family of ‘Ercildoon’, who sold Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $186.

The O’Malley Family of ‘Carinya’, sold crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $240.

Ben Doherty of ‘Bundarra’ at Tullamore, sold heavy Merino wether lambs in a 4 score condition, with a neat 8 week skin for $218.

To Nyngan now for the Hoare Family of ‘Karabran’, who sold young SheepMaster cross lambs in a 2/3 score condition, to the restockers for $123.

And for The Cleaver Family of ‘Murrabee’, who sold white Suffolk cross lambs in a 4 score condition, to with an inch skin for $236.

Into the mutton pens now where good prices lifted across all grades.

Light ewes sold from $59 - $93
Medium weight ewes sold from $110 - $154
Heavy weight ewes sold from $165 - $200
Extra heavy weights sold from $204 - $226.

Light wethers sold from $47 - $91
Medium weight wethers sold from $101 - $148
Heavy weight wethers sold from $157 - $189
Extra heavy wethers sold from $198 - $221

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for some of their clients -

The Whillock Family of ‘Maxland’ at Geurie, sold crossbred ewes in a 4/5 score condition, with inch skin, to the export orders for $204.

The Plummer Family of ‘Trigoona’ at Tottenham, sold Merino ewes in a 2 score condition, with a 2 inch skin for $99.

And for The George Family of ‘The Corners’ at Nyngan, who sold Merino ewes in a 3/4 score condition with an half inch skin for $165.

Well that about wraps it up for another week, don’t forget, there will be NO cattle sale on Thursday the 17th of April and NO Sheep and Lamb Sale on Monday the 21st of April both due to the Easter Break.
