Weekly Report

Fat Cattle report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of February 2020.  Tallied numbers this week included –

1500 fat cattle
4000 lambs and

1750 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a smaller yarding of cattle due to the recent storm activity across the state. With a good selection of young feeder and processor cattle, alongside some grain assisted grown steers and cows.

Feeder steers gained 15-20c/kg topping at 414c/kg while the feeder heifers were 20c-30c/kg stronger making from 300c/kg to 369c/kg.  Yearlings to the trade lifted 15c/kg with the steer portion bring 356c/kg and the prime heifers made from 316c/kg to 354c/kg.  Young restocker calves sold to dearer trends with lightweight steers maxing out at 595c/kg while the heifers brought 430c/kg

Prime grown steers were 20 cents dearer selling from 316 to 346c/kg, while there wasn’t enough grown heifers to quote.  All cows gained 10 - 15 cents, with heavy weight 3 & 4 score cows averaged 298c/kg.  Medium weight 2 score cows brought from 220 - 284c/kg and light restocker cows made 192 - 260c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Locally for the Skinner family off ‘Wembley Park’, who sold Fresian/Angus cross steers weighing 235kg, making 332c/kg and bringing $783/head.

And For Peter & Leanne Stimpson of ‘Medway Park’, who sold Charolais cross cows for 256c/kg weighing 745kg making $1907 per head.

Fat Sheep & Lamb

Into the lamb pens now, where again there was a rain affected market with limited numbers offered throughout the whole yarding.  It was still a very good quality yarding with some very well finished heavy weight lambs coming off grain alongside the expected number of lightweight and restocker lambs.

Lightweight lambs to the processors were up to $15 dearer with 12-18kg carcass making up to $168.  Trade lambs were $10-14 better and averaging 865c-895c/kg.  The heavy weights were $10 dearer and topped at $274. Restockers were up to $12 brighter and slightly more in places.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

Firstly to Molong for Peter & Julie Jackson off “Cronga”, who sold heavy White Suffolk lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with a 6 week skin for $217

Locally for Ross Yeo off ‘Lambar’, who sold 2nd cross suckers in a 2 & 3 score condition for $178

Lastly for Grant & Natasha Milgate, who sold fresh Dorpers in a 3 & 4 score condition to the processors for $200

Now in the mutton pens where medium and heavy weight sheep lost $5-$10 while the lightweight sheep were dearer due to restocker competition. Lightweight ewes made from $88-$120, with the medium weight ewes brining $130-$160, while the heavy weight 4 score ewes topped at $220.

Just a quick quote this week - On the same truck as the lambs Ross Yeo off ‘Lambar’, who sold crossbred ewes in a 2 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $113.

Well that about wraps it up for another week.

So until next week .................... Bye.
