Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of July, 2021.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  1500 fat cattle
10400 lambs and
  
1700 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a good quality yarding on offer with good lines of cattle for both processors and feeders alongside a few runs of grown cattle and cows.

Young kill cattle were firm with prime vealers selling to a top of 550c/kg.  Prime steer yearlings brought 440 – 560 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 390 - 510c/kg. Feeder steers and feeder heifers were dearer with feeder steers selling from 416 - 535c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 440 - 480c/kg.

Grown steers and grown heifers were unchanged, with prime grown steers selling from 350 - 430c/kg, while prime grown heifers brought 360 - 440c/kg.  Cows saw no change, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 230 - 320c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 300 - 350c/kg finishing the day averaging 328c/kg.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to Hermidale for the Currans family off “Wyola”, who sold well finished Angus cross cows that weighed 668kg bringing 345 cents, making $2305.

Down the road to Nyngan now for the Burley family off “Woodlands Station”, who sold Charolais cross vealer males straight off the cow for 540 cents, weighing 355kg coming back at $1917.

In the Dubbo district for the Clatworthy Family off “Mia Mia”, who sold well bred Angus steers calves for 580 cents, weighing in at 293kg making $1700.

Lastly to Wellington for the Deshon family off “Rocklee”, who sold heavy Charolais cross steers that weighed 570kg making 435 cents, coming back at over $2480.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a plainer quality yarding with a larger percentage of secondary type lambs lacking finish and freshness.  There were still some good pens of heavy weight and neat trade weights penned.  There was also a large portion of Merino lambs on offer, with all buyers in attendance and operating.

 

Trade lambs were firm with quality being a factor selling from $158 - $225 to average around 850 - 900c/kg.  Heavy weight lambs also saw no change with lambs 24kg - 30kg brought $200 - $227 averaging about 780 - 800c/kg, and the lambs over 30kgs sold from $224 - $265 to average 770c/kg.  Merino lambs were also slightly dearer.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Firstly to Hermidale for the Matchett family off “Budgery”, who sold crossbred lambs with a freshly shorn skin, in a 3 score condition for $208.

Down to Nyngan for the Hoare family off “Karabran”, who sold well bred and well finished SAMM lambs the in a 4 score condition, with a half inch skin topping Monday’s lamb market at $265.

Across to Tottenham now for the Cook Family off “Cadara”, who sold heavy weight crossbred lambs with a half inch skin, in a 3 & 4 score condition for $223.

Lastly to Tomingley now for the Pascoe family off “Pine Hill”, who sold young crossbred lambs with a two inch skin to the domestic kill for $182.

 

Into the mutton pens now, where it was a mostly good quality yarding with limited sheep on offer in a strong market.  Merino ewes sold from $100 - $210 and the crossbred ewes made $158 - $220.  Merino wethers selling from $155 - $220, most of the sheep averaged between 640 - 660c/kg.

 

Just a quick quote this week, for the Beard family of “Winfield” at Geurie, who sold heavy Merino ewes with a two inch skin, to the southern exporter for $205.
