Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of July 2022. Tallied numbers this week included –
2000 fat cattle
18500 lambs and
4000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a fair quality yarding on offer with only a limited supply of well finished cattle penned, with the market being quality driven.
Young kill cattle were firm with prime steer yearlings bringing 500 – 570 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 450 - 550c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers saw no change on the back of last week’s cheaper market. Feeder steers selling from 500 - 568c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 490 - 554c/kg. Young restockers were firm selling to a top of 629c/kg for steers and 544c/kg for heifers. Grown steers sold from 415 – 474c/kg, while there were only limited grown heifers penned. Cows were slightly dearer, with the prime heavy weights making 355 - 374c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Coonamble for the Millner family, who sold well bred Charolais heifers for 480 cents, they weighed in at 499kg coming back at $2398.
To Dubbo now for the Tucker family of “Cottesloe”, who sold well finished Angus cross steers that weighed 585kg bringing 460 cents, making $2691.
Lastly down the highway to Wongarbon for the Walters family off “Plain Creek”, who sold well bred and well finished Angus steers for 548 cents that weighed 519kg coming back at over $2847.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a mixed quality yarding with a good selection of both trade and heavy lambs throughout. Trade weight lambs were firm selling for $165 - $200 averaging around 790 – 830 cents. Heavy weight lambs were also firm on last week with old lambs over 24kg selling from $200 - $260 to average between 760 - 800c/kg. Extra heavy weight lambs topped at $263 and sold for 740 – 780c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Firstly to Hermidale for the Ward family of “Thorndale”, who sold heavy Merino lambs in a fresh 3 score condition with an inch and a half skin for $176.
At Eumungerie now for the Altus family, who sold fresh crossbred trade lambs in a 3 score condition to the northern exporter for $184.
Down the highway to Geurie for the Whillock family off “Maxland”, who sold well bred heavy weight crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, with a 6 week skin to the southern export for $250.
In the same district for the Beard family, who sold heavy weight crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for $235.
Lastly to Wellington for the Jeffreson family off “Bell River”, who sold trade weight crossbred lambs with an inch skin to the domestic kill for $188.
Into the mutton pens now, where mostly lighter sheep were penned in a mixed yarding. All grades fell by $10 - $15/head. Merino ewes selling from $120 - $200 and the crossbred ewes made $155 - $210, with most grades of sheep averaging 530 – 580c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -
Firstly to Quirindi for the Simson family off “Gananny”, who sold a well bred line of Merino ewes with an inch skin for $168.
Lastly to Baradine for the Finlay family off “Kinross”, who sold well bred heavy Aussie White ewes in a 4 & 5 score condition for $190.
