Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of July.

Tallied numbers this week,
1000 fat cattle,
7000 lambs and
3000 mutton.

Into the cattle pens firstly, where the wet conditions keep numbers low and we are seeing the effects of this continued wet weather. Quality is starting to slip and there are only limited numbers of well finished steers, heifers and cows on offer. All the usual buyers were operating.

Prime steer yearlings sold from 470c - 556c while the prime heifer yearlings sold from 528c to 574c/kg. Feeder steers lost some traction and sold from 450c to 568c/kg while the heifer portion sold from 460c to 516c/kg. Young cattle to the restockers remained firm with the steer portion reaching 600c/kg and the heifers topped at 504c/kg.

Grown steers were limited in supply and lost 5 cents, selling from 390c - 466c/kg while the heifer portion sold from 368c - 469c/kg. Cows were 10 cents dearer with the better heavy weights selling from 330c - 378c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 328c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients, -

Well just a couple of quick quotes for the Skinner Family of ‘Wembley Park’ sold Friesian Cows for 275 cents, they weighed 625kgs to return $1718.

And for the Mallon Family of ‘Milanda Station’ at Enngonia who sold Santa X steers for 520 cents, weighing 387kgs to return $2015.


Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now and just like the cattle, numbers were back considerably with the weekend’s conditions. There was a good selection of heavy weight lambs along with suitable lines of trade weights. Not all the usual buyers were in attendance.

Lightweight lambs had some competition this week and prices lifted $8, selling from $100 - $135. Trade lambs also lifted, up by $11 to sell from $162 - $202. Heavy lambs were $5 better to range from $198 - $235 as the extra heavyweights sold to a top of $250. Merino trade weights sold from $122 - $170 while the heavies sold from $185 - $209. The best heavy hoggets reached $190.

Into the mutton pens were most categories were $3 to $8 better.
Light ewes sold from $81 - $120
Medium weight ewes sold from $128 - $163
Heavy weight ewes sold from $181 - $200.

Light wethers sold from $90 - $120
Medium weight wethers sold from $133 - $158
Heavy weight wethers sold from $160 - $177.

Now just a few quick quotes from Monday's sale,
Paul & Carmel Quinn of ‘Caroo’ at Dubbo sold dorper lambs in a 3 score condition to the local butchers for $175.

And for the Boland Family of ‘Pepper Farm’ at Nyngan who sold dorper lambs in a 3/4 score condition to the domestic kill for $184.
