Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon this is Steve Gay taking a look at this week’s markets from Dubbo.

The cattle sale yesterday yarded just under 1900 cattle.  Not all the regular buyers were operating because of some uncertainty of export markets.  Plenty of plainer quality light young cattle made up the yarding along with medium weights to suit feedlots.  Overall all grades of kill cattle were 10-15c/kg cheaper.

Feeders were 5 to 10 cents cheaper.  Store cows were 20 to 25 cents dearer and light restocker calves were about firm, although for the quality of cattle sold, they seemed extremely over valued.

Heavy yearling steers to processors made to a top of 398 cents and heifers of the same weight topped at 350 cents.

Heavy cows to kill topped at 270 cents and 296 cents for cows back to the paddock.

Heifers to the feeders topped at 391 cents and steers peaked at 401 cents.

Light steers under 200kg sold to a top of 538 cents and averaged between 420 and 498 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Cameron Beard from Geurie sold top quality Angus steers to the feedlot for 397 cents, they weighed 423kg to return $1680.

Glendara Pastoral Company from Coonamble sold fat Angus heifers for 369 cents, they weighed 339kg to come back at $1253.

Kim Grattan from Dubbo sold light Angus steers to the backgrounder for 383 cents, weighing 264kg to return $1011.

And for The Mcwhirter family from Tooraweenah, who sold Angus cross cows back to the paddock for 296 cents, weighing 446kg to come back at $1321.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

To Monday’s sheep sale now where agents penned 6000 lambs and 2000 sheep.  Again all grades offered including restocker lambs were sold to cheaper trends.

Trade lambs were $10 cheaper, heavy lambs were $5 cheaper and restocker lambs were $10 to $15 cheaper on the better quality lambs and fully firm on the light lambs and Dorper store lambs.

Heavy lambs topped at $240. Trade crossbred lambs averaged between $167 and $186.

Store lambs sold from $115 to $178.

Medium and heavy weight Merino ewes averaged $143 to $166 respectively, and topped at $180.  Light sheep to processors sold from $91 to $106.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following stock for their clients -

Ryan Johnston from Geurie sold heavy trade weight White Suffolk cross lambs for $193.

Tony Kelly from Tottenham sold trade weight Aussie White lambs for $186.

The Hoare Family from Nyngan sold heavy trade weight 1st cross wether lambs for $211.

Because of the Easter weekend next Friday, our next cattle sale will be on 16th of April.

From all of the team at Carter Lindsay & Weber, have a great weekend, look after yourselves and remember, “overnight successes are generally years in the making. And most progress is made in isolation, far from the public eye” (Google, 2020).
