Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 4th week of June 2021. Tallied numbers this week included –
1400 fat cattle
14500 lambs and
6800 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a mixed yarding on offer with good young cattle for both processors and feeders alongside a few runs of grown cattle and cows. There was a larger percentage of plainer quality Bos Indicus cattle penned than in previous sales.
Young kill cattle were up to 10 cents dearer with prime vealers selling to a top of 538c/kg. Prime steer yearlings brought 422 – 486 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 390 - 480c/kg. Feeder steers and feeder heifers were firm with feeder steers selling from 416 - 515c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 440 - 476c/kg.
Grown steers were 5 cents cheaper while grown heifers gained 5 cents, with prime grown steers selling from 350 - 424c/kg while prime grown heifers brought 360 - 425c/kg. Cows saw no change, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 230 - 306c/kg while the prime heavy weights made 290 - 339c/kg finishing the day averaging 324c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Tooraweenah for the McWhirter family off “Springfield”, who sold well finished Santa cross cows that weighed 767kg making 330c/kg making $2532. On the same truck were fresh Angus cross heifer calves that had came straight off the cow, they sold for 507c/kg, weighed 345kg bringing $1749.
To Mendooran now for the Adams Family off “St Louie”, who sold, well bred Swiss Brown steers for 300c/kg weighing in at 765kg making $2295.
Lastly to Wellington for the Whale family off “Glenroy”, who sold, Shorthorn cross steers that weighed 506kg making 439c/kg coming back at over $2225.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a plainer quality yarding with a larger percentage of secondary type lambs lacking finish and freshness. There were still some good pens of heavy weight and neat trade weights penned. There was also a large portion of Merino lambs on offer, with all buyers in attendance and operating.
Trade lambs were firm with quality being a factor selling from $153 - $213 to average around 800c - 810c/kg. Heavy weight lambs also saw no change with lambs 24kg - 30kg brought $195 - $231 averaging about 745 - 785c/kg, and the lambs over 30kgs sold from $224 - $265 to average 735c/kg. Merino lambs were up to $10 - $20 dearer compared to the sale to weeks ago. With trade weight Merino’s selling from $148 - $191. Heavy weight Merino lambs sold from $195 - $215.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Firstly to Nyngan for the Hoare family off “Bel-Air”, who sold well bred SAMM lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with an inch skin for $208.
In the same district for the Young Family off “Pinegrove”, who sold heavy weight crossbred lambs with a half inch skin in a 3 & 4 score condition for $215.
To Trangie now for the Broughton family off “Jamea”, who sold fresh and heavy Merino lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition to the southern exporter for $186.
Down the road to Dubbo for the Yeo family off “Lambar”, who sold extra heavy crossbred lambs in a fresh 4 score condition for $236.
Lastly in the same district for the Bambrick Family, who sold, Dorper cross lambs in a 3 score condition for $144.
Into the mutton pens now, where it was a mostly good quality yarding with all grades on offer and $10 - $15/head stronger. Merino ewes sold from $100 - $228 and the crossbred ewes made $132 - $240. Merino wethers selling from $155 - $210, most of the sheep averaged between 640 - 660c/kg.

Firstly to Nyngan for the Young family off “Pinegrove”, who sold heavy crossbred sheep with a half inch skin to the local exporter for $230.
To Wellington now for the O’Brien Family off “Warrengunyah”, who sold crossbred ewes in a 3 score condition off the board for $160.
Lastly in the same district for the Johnston family off “Springburn”, who sold, heavy Dorper cross sheep in a 4 score condition for $179.
