Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the last week of April, 2021.  Tallied numbers this week included –

2400 fat cattle
9500 lambs and
3500 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a similar number yarded, with most categories fully firm to 5 cents cheaper on what is still a very strong market. 

Vealer steers in short supply and mainly to restockers and mainly around that 200kg live 558 to 708 cents.  Vealer heifers also in short supply and mainly to restockers 440 to 486 cents, with suitable kill types 420 to 494 cents.  Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers 412 to 470 cents, with feeder drafts 435 to 480 cents, with a lot of these drafts being Angus, with heavier drafts over 400kg to feeders 380 to 473 cents, with suitable kill types 387 to 484 cents.   Yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers 400 to 474 cents, with feeder drafts 386 to 445 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg to kill 380 to 461 cents or 393 to 443 cents to feed.

Into export sales, heavy feeder steers 360 to 424 cents mainly and topping at 479 cents and they were up to 500kg live, with kill drafts 370 to 394 cents.  Cows were firm to just off the pace seeing medium weight cows 240 to 282 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 270 to 302 cents for the majority and topping at 311 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly, locally at Molong for Sam & Sally Kirby of “Winchester”, who sold Charolais cross feeder heifers that weighed 375kg for 445 cents and they came back at $1680.

To Geurie for Matt & Narelle Clatworthy of “Mia Mia”, who sold Angus feeder steers for 461 cents, they weighed 445kg and they came back at $2050.

For The Millner Family of “Geurie Homestead”, who sold prime Angus cross cows for 302 cents, they weighed 670kg and these top cows came back at $2010.

The Crothers Family of “Grandchester” at Mendooran, sold prime trade Limousin heifers that weighed 410kg for 481 cents and these top calves came back at $1970.

Lastly at Nyngan for John & Mary Burley of “Woodlands Station”, who sold Angus vealer heifers for 494 cents to the trade butchers, they weighed 370kg and they came back at $1840.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a very good yarding of lambs, with most regular buyers in attendance.  The market in general was firm to $5 dearer for most categories, with quality a big help for values. 

Into crossbred sales firstly, with drafts up to 18kg dressed to restockers $160 to $190
Trade weights $162 to $180
Heavy trade $176 to $195
Light export $187 to $198
With drafts up to 30kg dressed $195 to $240
With super heavies well in excess of 30kg dressed $235 to $250 and this week topping at $280 and they were thumpers.

Into Merino sales, light kill types up to 16kg dressed $110 to $140
Up to 18kg dressed $135 to $145
Medium trade $154 to $166
Heavy trade $165 to $172
Light export $185 to $190
With drafts up to 30kg dressed making up to $198

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

Locally for The Whale Family of “Glenroy” at Wellington, who sold 2nd cross trade weight lambs with a ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $187.

The Goldsmith Family of ‘Urungie” at Coonamble, sold 1st cross lambs to restockers – unshorn and they made $166.

And at Baradine for Trevor Botfield, who sold export weight White Dorper lambs and these top lambs made $230.

Into the mutton pens now, on what was a fully firm to slight cheaper market for the heavy weights on what is still a very, very strong market. 

Light boner ewes $88 to $92
Boner ewes $107 to $117
Medium weights $125 to $144 for crossbreds or $124 to $144 for majority of Merino’s, with the framier types making up to $174
Export weights $166 to $200 for Merino’s, $168 to $185 for crossbreds or $150 to $212 for Dorper’s
Super heavy weights estimated to weigh over 30kg dressed $210 to $240 for crossbreds, $195 to $250 for Dorper’s or $196 to $236 for Merino’s

Onto wethers which were in shorter supply, medium weights $140 to $150
Export weights $160 to $195
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $200 to $205 and all being Merino’s

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients –

At Molong for Sam & Sally Kirby of “Winchester”, who sold Merino ewes with a 4 week skin, to the trade butchers for $150.

At Baradine for The Hotchkiss Family of “Pinebridge”, who sold trade weight Merino ewes with a 4 week skin for $158.

On the same truck as the lambs for The Goldsmith Family, who sold export weight Merino ewes with a ½ inch skin and these top ewes made $184.

And lastly for The Davis Family of “Myandetta” at Bourke, who sold large frame Merino ewes with a ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $185.
