Fat Cattle Report
Good morning everybody, this is John Lindsay taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the third week of March, 2022. Tallied numbers this week included –
2870 cattle
11300 lambs
2460 mutton and
1900 store cattle
Into the cattle pens firstly, where most categories were represented on what was a fully firm market, with trade kill cattle up to 10 cents dearer, with good quality feeder cattle fully firm with slightly plainer drafts this week up to 10 cents cheaper, with export cattle fully firm, with heavy steers up to 10 cents dearer on what is still an extremely strong market.
Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 448 to 570 cents for the plainer drafts or 575 to 610 cents for the better forward drafts, with kill types in shorter supply seeing sales between 600 and 618 cents. With heavier drafts over 400kg to feedlotters 470 to 600 cents, with suitable kill drafts and they were better supplied this week 478 to 610 cents. Yearling heifers under 400kg to kill 531 to 608 cents, with feeder drafts 452 to 566 cents for the fresher forward drafts, with heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 472 to 520 cents, with kill types 470 to 684 cents.
Into export sales, feeder steers up to 500kg 476 to 518 cents, heavier feeders over 500kg 458 to 490 cents generally and up to 510 cents for Angus drafts, with bullocks seeing most sales between 442 and 488 cents. Medium weight cows in shorter supply 280 to 364 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 372 and 405 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly locally for Jack Tudor at Geurie, who sold heavy Shorthorn cross cows for 398 cents, they weighed 690kg and they came back at $2750.
The Atkinson Family of ‘Wonga” at Yeoval, sold feeder Santa steers for 570 cents, they weighed 410kg and they came back at $2350.
Nelson & Susie Carlow of “Dulcidene”, who sold heavy Hereford cows that weighed 890kg for 392 cents and these top cows came back at $3500.
Randall & Kylie Carlow sold trade weight Angus heifers for 504 cents, they weighed 480kg and they came back at $2400.
David Hearn of “San Diego” at Narromine, sold heavy Angus feeder steers for 599 cents, they weighed 500kg and they came back at $2985.
While for a Western vendor, Angus feeder steers that weighed 450kg, they made 607 cents and they came back at $2725. While the heifer portion made 564 cents they weighed 420kg and they came back at $2360.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a decent quality yarding of lambs with trade and export weight lambs $5 to $10 dearer for the better end, with Merino’s $4 to $7 cheaper.
Into crossbred sales firstly, with restocker types up to 16kg dressed $110 to $142
Light trade $150 to $172
Medium trade $155 to $182 generally and up to $193 for the better, rounder, fresher drafts
Heavy trade or light export $188 to $215
With export drafts $195 to $225
With super heavies up to 30kg dressed $220 to $246 with this week’s top price being $276 for a pen of 2nd cross lambs estimated to weigh over 30kg dressed.
As mentioned Merino lambs were a bit tougher, with light kill types up to 16kg dressed $112 to $122
Light trade $136 to $156
Medium trade $123 to $174
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
For Dave Campbell at Dubbo, who sold trade weight 2nd cross lambs in a 3 score condition for $181.
Phil Hubbard of “Kainga” at Geurie, sold 2nd cross light export weight lambs in a 3 score condition, with a ¼ inch skin for $213.
To Coolabah now for Jean Dunn of “Bundong Station”, who sold tidy medium weight trade lambs with a fresh 6 week skin for $188.
Pete Edwards & Amanda Dunn of “Tubbavilla”, who also sold medium weight trade lambs with a fresh 6 week skin for $188.
While to Bourke for Ben & Liarne Mannix of “Gumbooka”, who sold light export weight Dorper lambs in a rock hard 3 score condition and these top lambs made $192.
Into the mutton pens now, where there was some good drafts on offer, but basically light weight and medium weight sheep were $10 cheaper with the better heavy weight sheep up to $10 dearer.
Light boner ewes in short supply $65 to $70
Boner ewes $70 to $94
Medium weight ewes $138 to $166 for crossbreds or $103 to $158 for the majority with the framier types making up to $174.
With export weights $151 to $205 for Merino’s or $170 to $206 for crossbreds
With super heavies over 30kg dressed mainly all being crossbreds this week making up to $230.
Wethers were shorter supplied, with boner wethers $68 to $74
Medium weights $130 to $156 for the majority and up to $178 for the pick of this draft and mainly all being Merino’s
Export weights $164 to $200 for Merino’s, with Dorpers $196 to $223
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $224 to $230 for crossbreds with Merino’s in shorter supply and making up to $220.
Just a quick quote this week and on the same truck as the lambs, Ben & Liarne Mannix sold heavy weight Dorper ewes to the export orders for $202.
