Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the first week of winter 2020.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  860 cattle
8500 lambs and
4000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a small but very mixed yarding of cattle with a small selection of most categories.  The market in general was firm with the exception of cows which were up to 10 cents cheaper on the back of strong prices in previous weeks.

Vealer steers mainly to restockers and on the lighter end – 394 to 538 cents.  Vealer heifers also mainly to restockers – 390 to 454 and up to 496 cents on some lighter drafts.  Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters – 401 to 418 cents, with some lighter restocker drafts closer to 300kg – 382 to 480 cents.  Heavier drafts over 400kg in limited supply – 342 to 425 cents.

Yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers – 342 to 410 cents, with heavier feeder drafts up to 400kg – 359 to 405 cents, with suitable kill types – 345 to 415 cents.  Into export sales, heavy kill heifers in limited supply – 304 to 372 cents.  Light boner cows to restockers – 270 to 288 cents, while medium weights also to resockers – 248 to 295 cents, with kill types – 265 to 275 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 279 to 303 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a small number on offer once again.  The market in general was $5 to $8 cheaper for most categories, with light weight kill lambs – regardless of breed fully firm, but I must say the quality was very good.

Light trade weights $170 to $185 for crossbreds or $154 to $180 for Merino’s, with suitable restocker crossbred drafts $175 to $192

With export weight crossbred drafts $217 to $242

Into the mutton pens now, where it was a good yarding on offer, with the market in general $2 to $7 dearer.

Light weight Merino ewes $105 to $138
Medium weights $128 to $183 for Merino’s and $132 to $180 for crossbreds
Export weights $173 to $215 for crossbreds or $185 to $242 for Merino’s with the help of a longer skin
With super heavy weights over 30kg dressed $208 to $240 for crossbreds or $220 to $230 for Merino’s.

There were some nice drafts of wethers yarded with medium weight Merino wethers $138 to $187
With export weights $181 to $234 for Merino’s or $183 to $240 for crossbreds.

Just a quick quote for Jason Beck of “Cadonia” at Coonamble, who sold crossbred export weight wethers with a 1 inch skin, in a 4 score condition and they made $190.

Well that about wraps it up for this week – but remember there will be no sheep sale in Dubbo on Monday 8th June, due to the long weekend, but there is also a store cattle sale scheduled in Dubbo for Friday 19th June 2020, with some good quality bookings already at hand.

So until next week .......................... Bye.
