Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of August 2022. Tallied numbers this week included –
1800 fat cattle
10000 lambs
4800 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a good quality yarding on offer with cows and young cattle making up majority of the yarding. There was a good selection to suit both the feeders and processors.
Young kill cattle were 20 cents dearer with prime vealers topping at 550 cents. Prime steer yearlings bringing 420 – 520 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 438 - 518c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were 15 cents dearer with feeder steers selling from 425 - 540c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 412 - 512c/kg. Young restockers were firm selling to a top of 615c/kg for steers and 535c/kg for heifers.
Grown steers were 5 cents cheaper while grown heifers were firm to 5 cents dearer. Prime grown steers made from 410 – 460 cents, while prime grown heifers brought 393 – 454c/kg. Cows were 20 – 30 cents dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 240 - 367c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 349 - 392c/kg to average around 371c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Baradine for the McConnaughty family off “Elstow”, who sold large frame Charolais cows for 389 cents, they weighed in at 763kg with these well bred cows coming back at $2969.
Now to Nyngan for the Menzies family off “Summerlea”, who sold well finished crossbred cows that weighed 560kg making 371 cents, bringing $2078.
Lastly in the same district for the Burley family off “Woodlands Station”, who sold a nice line of well finished Angus cross steers that weighed 380kg bringing 520 cents, making $1976.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a mixed quality yarding with some good heavyweight lambs penned and only a limited number of trade weights. There was a larger number of secondary lambs and Merino’s yarded.
Trade weight lambs were $5 - $8 dearer selling from $90 - $178 averaging around 625c – 700 cents. Heavy weight lambs were firm to slightly dearer with lambs 24kg – 30kg selling from $156 - $206, while the lambs over 30kg brought from $205 - $230 to average between 620 - 685c/kg. Merino’s were slightly dearer with trade weights making from $89 -$140 while the heavier weights made from $155 - $170.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Firstly to Hermidale for the Matchett family off “Budgery”, who sold crossbred lambs in a fresh 4 score condition, with a freshly shorn skin for $202.
Across to Girilambone now for the Klante family off “Yarrendale”, who sold fresh Dorper ram lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition for $115.
Down the road to Nyngan for the Pearce family off “Gollanfield”, who sold fresh trade weight crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition, with an 8 week skin for $172.
Lastly in the Warren district for the Bryan family off “Newe Park”, who sold crossbred lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition, with an April skin for $155.
Into the mutton pens now, where most grades were represented in a good quality yarding where most grades lifted by $5 - $10/head.
Merino ewes sold from $50 - $100 for the 2 & 3 score ewes while the better 4 score ewes topped at $160. Crossbred ewes made $60 - $120 for the 2 & 3 scores while the better 4 & 5 score ewes made from $140 - $195. Merino wethers sold from $100 - $170. Carcass prices ranged from 460 – 575c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -
Firstly to Coonamble for the Beck family, who sold heavy crossbred wethers with an 8 week skin, in a 4 score condition to the local export for $150.
Lastly to Hermidale, on the same truck as the lambs for the Matchett family off “Budgery”, who sold heavy crossbred wethers in a 4 score condition, with a freshly shorn skin for $150.
