Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at only the cattle market out of Dubbo this week, due to the Easter break.

It was a smaller yarding in Dubbo this week, with only 2100 on what was a mixed yarding with most categories represented but in smaller numbers, the market in general was fully firm to slightly dearer on last week’s strong market, with any cheaper trends only due to quality.

Vealer steers were in shorter supply and mainly to restockers 392 to 425 cents, with the heifer portion 304 to 355 cents.

Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 354 to 420 cents with the majority around the 390 cent mark with the bigger portion mainly being crossbred, with heavier drafts over 400kg 370 to 408 cents.

Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed in shorter supply 368 to 386 cents for the fresher types, with restocker drafts also in short supply 278 to 346 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg to kill 311 to 362 cents, with the feeder portion 350 to 384 cents.

Light boner cows to restockers 245 to 290 cents, medium weights 240 to 293 cents with the majority around the 270 cent mark, with heavy high yielding cows 270 to 300 cents generally and this week topping at 315 cents.  With the best heavy bulls making between 290 and 320 cents.

Just some quick quotes for some local Carter Lindsay & Weber clients this week –

Firstly for Ben & Cloe Lawson of “Monte Carlo” at Stuart Town, who sold prime Santa heifers with their 2 and 4 teeth to kill, they made 365 cents and weighed 660kg to return $2410.

While for a local vendor, Shorthorn feeder steers that weighed 460kg for 405 cents and they came back at $1850, while on the same truck Shorthorn cows weighed 650kg for 298 cents and they came back at $1935.

Well that about wraps it up for this week, don’t forget there is a store cattle sale in Dubbo next Friday 2nd May 2025.

So until next week ……………………. Bye.
