Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the first week of winter.
Tallied numbers this week included –
3100 fat cattle
22000 lambs
10000 mutton and
1800 store cattle
Into the cattle pens firstly, where rain early in the week slowed numbers for a smaller yarding. Most categories were represented and the market was fully firm to dearer on feeder steers and cows.
Light vealer steers to restockers in shorter supply 428 to 465 cents, with the heifer portion also shorter supplied 364 to 450 cents.
Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers 380 to 476 cents, with the biggest majority around the 450 cent mark, with feeder drafts 360 to 458 cents and mainly around the 422 cent mark, with heavier drafts over 400kg seeing very similar values.
Yearling heifers under 400kg this week were all mainly to feedlotters, seeing sales between 340 and 400 cents with the biggest majority either side of 370 cents. Heavier drafts over 400kg were in shorter supply and seeing similar values.
Into export sales, which were a little bit short this week, with killable drafts and also being young 322 to 380 cents, with export kill heifers also in short supply 320 to 360 cents.
Boner cows 240 to 266 cents and mainly all to restockers, medium weights 256 to 294 cents and mainly around the 270 cent mark, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 297 and 320 cents, with this week’s top price being 350 cents. The best heavy bulls 270 to 330 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Locally for the Skinner Family of “Wembley Park”, who sold large framed, heavy Friesian cows for 275 cents, they weighed 690kg and these top cows came back at $1900.
At Hermidale for The Dewhurst Family of “Elmsley”, who sold Angus cross feeder steers that weighed 420kg for 374 cents to come back at $1580.
While for a Western vendor – Santa Angus cross feeder heifers in a fresh condition, that weighed 385kg for 382 cents to feeders and these top heifers came back at $1470.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where the market was certainly softer on the back of on of the best markets we have seen in quite some time last week, which to be honest was expected. Most lambs were $10 to $15 cheaper and the heavier lambs could have been a bit more on what is still a very strong market.
Into crossbred lambs firstly, with light kill weights up to 16kg dressed $110 to $116
Up to 18kg dressed $135 to $155
Light trade $140 to $160
With heavy trade $190 to $232 and I believe they were the strength, with the biggest majority around the $220 mark
Drafts up to 26kg dressed $228 to $270 but mainly around $245
Drafts up to 30kg dressed $250 to $310 and mainly either side of $280
With the super heavies over 30kg dressed $310 to $366 and mainly around the $330 mark
To Merino’s with light kill types up to 16kg dressed $87 to $105
Light trade $140 to $160
Medium trade $148 to $180 but mainly that $160 mark
Heavy trade weights $172 to $188
With export weights up to 26kg dressed $220 to $235
With some big boys up to 30kg dressed making up to $270
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly for Matt & Kylie Whale of “Glenroy” at Wellington, who sold light export weight 2nd cross lambs, in a 3 score condition with a 1 inch skin and these top lambs made $267.
Andrew O’Brien of “Glenhaven” at Dubbo, sold export weight Aussie White lambs in a 4 score condition and these top lambs made $254.
Kel Baker of “Ercildoon” at Narromine, sold export weight Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition and they made $233.
Jon Pocknell of “Springvale Station” at Walgett, sold export weight Dorper lambs in a 4 score condition and these top lambs made $241.
Tom & Margot Elder of “Woorndoo” at Girilambone, sold heavy trade weight Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition and these top lambs made $216.
Lastly for Bryan & Jess Perry of “Killarney Vale” at Hermidale, who sold export weight White Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition and these top lambs made $196.
Into the mutton pens now, where there was some good quality mutton yarded with the market mainly firm with the heavy weights possible a tad cheaper but still very good.
Light boner ewes $70 to $130 but mainly around the $100 mark
Medium weights $120 to $185 but mainly around $140 and mainly Merino’s
Export weights over 24kg and up to 30kg dressed $146 to $200 for Merino’s or $160 to $200 for crossbreds.
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $196 to $251 for Merino’s and mainly around the $230 mark with the crossbreds $185 to $206
Wethers were in shorter supply with medium weights $128 to $178 for Merino’s
With the export weights $168 to $213 for Merino’s or $148 to $187 for crossbreds
Well that about wraps it up for this week, please note due to the King’s birthday long weekend there will be no sheep & lamb sale on Monday 9th June.
