Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon this is Campbell Rose taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of May, 2025.
Tallied numbers this week included –
2800 fat cattle
13800 lambs and
8600 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a mixed yarding with only fair numbers of young cattle to suit the feeders and processors and there were limited numbers of grown steers and heifers. There were good numbers of cows and most of the yarding was made up of plainer quality cattle from the far west.
Young cattle to the processors were firm. With prime young vealers selling from 330 -399c/kg. Young steers sold to 468 cents and heifers reaching 390c/kg.
Feeder steers and heifers were 10 – 20 cents stronger. Feeder steers sold from 368 – 464 cents. Feeder heifers sold from 349 - 390c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers were around firm. Prime grown steers sold from 312 - 374c/kg. Prime grown heifers sold from 340 - 386c/kg.
Cows were 10 – 15 cents dearer. Prime heavyweight cows sold from 290 - 329c/kg. While 2 and 3 score cows sold from 246 - 295c/kg. Restocker cows sold from 240 – 285 cents. The best heavy bulls sold to 310c/kg.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Firstly for Peter & Ann Quirk of ‘Monte Cresto’ at Stuart Town, who sold restocker Angus steers for 468 cents, weighing 327kg and returning $1533.
Scott Parnaby at Dubbo, sold feeder Hereford heifers for 340 cents, weighing 375kg and returning $1275.
And lastly, Andrew & Rose Gordon at Bourke, who sold heavy Santa Bullocks for 360 cents, weighing 645kg and returning $2322.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a very good quality yarding with good numbers of heavy weight lambs throughout, along with fair numbers of trade weights. There were also some well finished Merino’s along with exotic lambs. The market was very positive, especially anything above the 20kg carcass weight categories.
Lightweight lambs to the processors were up to $15 dearer with the 2 score lambs under 18kg selling from $80 - $160.
Trade lambs were $25 dearer or more in places, selling from $165 - $287 - exceeding 1000c/kg a number of occasions.
Heavy weight lambs were $40 dearer selling from $237 - $341
The extra heavy’s over 30kg sold from $345 - $382.20.
Merinos were up to $50 dearer with trade weights selling from $135 - $220. A large pen of heavy weight Merino’s topped out at $269.
Lambs to the restockers were $30 dearer with crossbreds selling from $104 - $170.
Hoggets sold to $220.
Into the mutton pens now where most grades were $10 - $20 dearer. Merino ewes sold from $75 - $238 while crossbred ewes sold from $98 - $237.
Merino wethers sold from $80 - $269.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -
Firstly, The Simson Family of ‘Gananny’ at Quirindi, sold heavy Merino hoggets for $201.
The Whillock Family of ‘Maxland’ at Geurie, created a new Dubbo saleyard lamb record, selling 269 vendor bred heavy crossbred lambs for $382.20.
Chris & Bec O’Malley of ‘Carinya’ at Narromine, sold heavy trade weight crossbred lambs for $287.
Tom and Margot Elder of ‘Woorndoo’ at Nyngan, sold trade weight Australian White lambs, in a 3 & 4 score condition for $205.
And lastly for Richard and Dixie Stendell of ‘Ben Avon’ at Brewarrina, who sold Merino ewes for $170.
