Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of May 2021.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  1750 fat cattle
10100 lambs and
  
3440 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a better quality yarding with nice lines to suit both the feed and processor orders, along with only limited numbers of cows but a fair number of grown steers and heifers.

 Young kill cattle were firm with prime vealers sold from 436 - 498c/kg.  Prime steer yearlings brought 400 – 488 cents.  Feeders gained 10 cents with the feeder steers selling from 388 - 488c/kg while the feeder heifers made 356 - 476c/kg.  Young cattle to restock were dearer with steer weaners selling from 472 - 592c/kg while young restocker heifers sold to a top of 600c/kg.  

Grown steers and heifers were 5-10 cents dearer, with prime steers selling from 345 – 411 cents, while prime grown heifers brought 320 - 399c/kg.  Cows were 3 – 5 cents dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 260 - 300c/kg while the prime heavy weights made 292 - 320c/kg finishing the day averaging 311c/kg.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to the Dubbo district for the Koerstz Family, who sold well finished Angus Santa cross steers weighing 552kg making 418c/kg to return $2311.

In the same district for the Brock Family, who sold fat Friesian cows for 300c/kg weighing in at 606kg making $1819.

Down the highway to Geurie for the Millner family, who sold well breed Hereford steers that weighed 425kg and brought 454c/kg coming back at over $1930.

Lastly to Wellington for the Clarke family of “Mehruda” who sold heavy Angus heifers that made 404c/kg and these cows weighed 565kg bringing $2283. 

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good quality yarding with a large percentage of top heavy weight lambs and a few pens of trade weights.  Good numbers of Merino’s and Dorper’s were penned alongside.  

 Trade lambs were firm to $5 dearer with quality being a factor selling from $147 - $196 to average around 795c - 825c/kg.  Heavy weight lambs that weighed up to 30kg were unchanged while the extra heavy weights were $5 cheaper. Lambs 24kg - 30kg brought $185 - $238 averaging about 760c - 780c/kg, and the lambs over 30kgs sold from $235 - $268 to average 730c/kg.  Merino lambs were $3 dearer with trade weight lambs selling from $140 - $192.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Firstly to Nyngan for Peter & Debbie Pearce, who sold well bred crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with a 1/2 inch for $213.

To Baradine now for the Purdy family of “Raheen” who sold, fresh and heavy Dorper cross lambs in a 4 score condition to the southern exporter for $210.

Over to Wongarbon for Craig & Kerry Walters of “Plain Creek” who sold, extra heavy crossbred lambs with a inch and a half skin for $238.

Now at Wellington for Matt & Kylie Whale of “Glenroy”, who sold trade weight crossbred lambs in a 2 and 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $187.

Lastly in the same district for the Power Family, who sold Australian White wether lambs in fresh condition for $166. 

Into the mutton pens now, where there were some very heavy sheep penned in what was a mostly good yarding.  Merino sheep were $5 - $10 stronger while the crossbred portion gain $8.  Merino ewes sold from $100 - $223 and the crossbred ewes made $110 - $230. Merino wethers selling from $145 - $243, most of the sheep averaged between 600c - 660c/kg.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients –

 Firstly to Albert for Bob & Robin Smart of “Tullarook”, who sold a well bred line of heavy Merino ewes with a 2 inch skin to the local exporter for $186.

To Wongarbon now and on the same truck as the lambs for Craig & Kerry Walters of “Plain Creek”, who sold heavy crossbred ewes in a 5 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $223.

And lastly in the Wellington district for Stewart & Anne Edwards off “Catombal Park”, who sold heavy Merino ewes with an inch skin, in a 3 & 4 score condition for $180.
