Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of November. Tallied numbers this week included -
2700 fat Cattle
7000 lambs and
3000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly where a mostly good quality yarding with yearlings suitable for the feeders, made up a large percentage of the yarding. Limited numbers of well finished grown steers and heifers were on offer, however, there were better numbers of heavy cows penned.
Prime vealers sold to a top of 580c/kg. Prime yearlings sold from 430 - 500c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were dearer, selling from 460 - 604c/kg, while the feeder heifers sold from 410 - 580c/kg. Young cattle to the restocker were dearer with young steers selling to a top of 914c/kg and were estimated to weigh 200kgs, with the heifers reaching similar heights of 906c/kg. Steers to the backgrounders sold from 548 - 740c/kg.
Grown steers remained firm to sell from 400 - 445c/kg, grown heifers sold from 410 - 450c/kg. Cows were in high demand this week, lifting 8 - 10 cents, with the better D3/4 cows selling between 386 - 413c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 331c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -
Locally for the Carlow Family of “Dulcidene” who sold 2 tooth Hereford bullocks for 440 cents, they weighed an impressive 792kg to return $3487.
The McWhirter Family of “Wilga Park” at Tooraweenah, sold Angus bullocks for 442 cents, weighing 700kg to return $3094.
And for Peter Dickson of “Glenhope” at Bourke, who sold Braford steers for 620 cents, weighing 289kg to return $1794.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, and with a cheaper market last week and rainfall in some of the supply areas, numbers were back. It was a good quality yarding with a good selection of trade weights along with the odd pen of heavy weights. Merino lambs were also well supplied with all regular buyer in attendance and operating in a dearer market.
Trade weight new season lambs were $11 dearer selling from $162 - $212. Trade weight old season lambs looked to be $15 dearer to sell from $169 - $224. Heavy weight lambs were $20 dearer to sell from $214 - $294. Merino lambs also lifted, trades weights sold from $150 - $214, and the heavy weights reached a top of $238. The best heavy hoggets reached a top of $214.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Locally for Scott & Stacey Barton of Dubbo, who sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $162.
Bella Beard of “Winfield” at Geurie, sold 2nd x lambs in a 3 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $219.
The Humphries Family from Gunnedah sold crossbred suckers in a 3 score condition, to the restocker orders for $182.
And for The Johnstone Family of “Mulwarree” at Warren, who sold Merino lambs in 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $148.
Into the Mutton pens now, where a very mixed yarding with all grades represented, had prices lift by $10 across most grades.
Light ewes sold from $68 - $110
Medium weight ewes sold from $123 - $177
Heavy weight ewes sold from $181 - $198
Light wethers sold from $80 - $122
Medium weight wethers sold from $130 - $170
Heavy wethers sold from $175 - $190.
