Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of June.
Well with the King’s Birthday long weekend there was no Sheep and Lamb sale on Monday so we will jump right into the cattle pens where 3500 cattle were yarded.
A mixed quality yarding greeted all the usual buyers with large runs of plain cattle in from the far west as well as some well finished grown steers and heifers.
Young cattle to the trade remained firm with prime vealers and yearlings selling from 340 - 402c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were 8 cents better with the steers selling from 373 - 462c/kg, while the heifers sold from 335 - 408c/kg.
Weaners to the restockers continue to attract attention with young steers selling to 474 cents and young heifers reaching 360 cents.
Grown steers and heifers were 7 - 13 cents dearer with prime grown steers selling from 345 - 399 cents, while grown heifers sold from 334 - 393 cents.
Heavy cows remained strong with the better D3/4 cows selling from 300 - 346c/kg while the lighter plainer cows were cheaper and ranged from 220 - 288c/kg. The best heavy bulls reached a top of 333c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -
Locally for the McFetridge family of ‘Tathra’, who sold Hereford steers for 393 cents, weighing 435kg to return $1710.
The Quinn Family of ‘Caroo’, sold Angus heifers for 349 cents, weighing 316kg to come back at $1103.

And lastly for Nick & Alix Mace of ‘Wilga Park’ at Walgett, who sold Santa cross heifers for 396 cents, weighing 430kg to return $1703.
Well that wraps it up for this week, don’t forget the next store cattle sale is scheduled for Friday 4th July.
