Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of October.
Tailed numbers this week included :
5500 fat cattle
15,000 lambs
5000 sheep
Into the cattle pens firstly where a mixed yarding was on offer with good numbers of very well finished grown steers and heifers as well as plenty of pens to suit the feeder and trade buyers. Large runs of Bos Indicus cows and weaners suitable for the restocker made up the balance of the yarding.
Young vealers to the trade were fully firm selling to 594c/kg. Steer yearlings to the trade eased slightly selling from 470c - 530c/kg while the heifer portion gained a couple of cents and sold from 480c- 550c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers again increased in price as the steers reached a top of 600c/kg and the heifer portion sold to a top of 576c/kg.
Grown steers were firm this week selling from 411c-510c/kg while grown heifers sold from 430c - 474c/kg. Cows looked to be 4 cents better as the prime heavy weights sold from 375c - 436c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 360 cents.

To Geurie for Marnie Millner of “Geurie Homestead” who sold Charolais Steers for 556 cents, weighing 525kgs or $2920.
Ross & Karen Paxton of “Ponderosa” sold Friesian Bullocks for 448 cents, weighing 740kgs to return $3316.
The Whillock Family of “Maxland” sold Angus Heifers for 538 cents, weighing 418kgs to return $2253.
Locally for Clatworthy Family of “Mia Mia” at Dubbo who sold Angus steers for 590 cents, weighing 471kgs to return $2779.
Paul & Carmel Quinn of “Caroo” sold Angus x steers for 586 cents, weighing 375kgs to return $2198.
The Hall Family of “Cornucopia” at Gilgandra sold Hereford steers fo 510 cents, weighing 517kgs to come back at $2636.
The Altus Family of “Fermoy” at Coonamble sold heavy crossbred heifers for 460 cents, weighing 505kgs to return $2325.
The Richardson Family of “Karamea” at Trangie sold Angus steers for 581 cents, weighing 507kgs to return $2947.
To Tottenham now for the O’Hara family of “Dunrovin” who sold Angus cows for 404 cents, weighing a heavy 731kgs to return $2963.
The Weber Family of “Chelsea” sold Angus steers for 637 cents, weighing 341kgs to return $2177.
The Manns Family of “Gidgee” at Cobar sold to quality Santa bullocks for 446 cents, weighing 630kgs to come back at $2811.
And Lastly for the Fisher Family of “Kilberoo” at Yantabulla who sold Angus bullocks for 447 cents, they weighed an impressive 710kgs to return $3176,
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where a mixed quality yarding was on offer with a good selection of trade weight new season lambs as well as large runs of merino lambs and hoggets. All regular buyers were operating and active.
Trade weight new season lambs were $4 dearer to range from $180-$252. Trade weight old lambs lost $5 on quality yet still ranged from $176-$240. Heavy weights this week lacked quality and finish and sold to a cheaper trend with old lambs ranging from $248-$280 while the extra heavy weights sold from $292-$320.
Merino lambs were $6 cheaper with trade weights selling from $138-$192 while the heavy weights sold from $219-$268. The best heavy hogget sold to a top of $220.

For the Kidd family off “Kungee” at Dubbo, who sold, crossbred suckers fresh in a 4 score condition for $225.
For Kim O’Neil of “Boganelle” of Trangie, who sold, merino lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $208.
The Fragar family off “Talgong”, at Tottenham who sold merino in a 3 score condition with a half inch skin for $226.
And lastly for the Young family off “Pinegrove” at Hermidale who sold, crossbred suckers in a 4 score condition for $215.
Into the mutton pens now, where all grades were represented in a mixed yarding where the light and medium weights were dearer and the heavy weights looked to me to be $13 cheaper.

Medium weight ewes sold from $126-$170
Heavy weight ewes sold from $168-$185
Light wethers sold from $135-$145
Medium wethers sold from $154-$186
Heavy wethers sold from $190-$230

For the Lawson family off “Monte Carlo” of Stuart town, who sold, merino ewes in a 3 score condition that made $174.
The White family of “Aldahome” at Narromine, who sold, merino ewes with a 6 week skin in a 3 score condition for $180.
The Weber family off “Kia-ora” at Tottenham, who sold, merino wethers in a 3 score condition and a half inch skin for $180.

From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.
A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.
New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.
As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
