Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of February 2023. Tallied numbers this week included –
3200 fat cattle
10400 lambs and
9500 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a plainer quality yarding with a larger number of Bos Indicus cattle throughout the yarding. There was a fair number of grown steers and heifers alongside cows being in good supply.
Young kill cattle were 10 – 15 cents cheaper with prime vealers topping at 420c/kg. Prime steer yearlings bringing 330 - 420c/kg and the prime yearling heifers made 324 - 395c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were 10 – 15 cents cheaper with feeder steers selling from 320 - 425c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 311 - 380c/kg. Young restockers sold to a weaker demand due to quality selling to a top of 490c/kg for steers and 412c/kg for heifers.
Grown steers and heifers were firm with the prime grown steers making 320 – 3791c/kg while the heifer portion brought 310 – 358c/kg. Cows were unchanged, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 166 - 292c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 286 - 325c/kg to average around 301c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Nyngan for the Burley family off “Woodlands Station”, who sold well bred Angus steers for 380 cents, they weighed in at 485kg coming back at $1843.
In the same district for the Carter family off “Birrimba”, who sold Santa steers in a fresh condition bringing 399 cents, they weighed up at 420kg bringing $1676.
To Warren now for the McLaughlin family off “Merryanbone North”, who sold well finished Hereford cross steers in fat condition weighing 650kg making 359 cents and coming back at over $2334.
Across to Trangie for the McKay family off “Winnabri”, who sold Shorthorn feeder steers that weighed 483kg and brought 376 cents making over $1816.
Lastly in the Dubbo district for the Lappa family off “Belourie”, who sold properly bred Angus steers that weighed 411kg selling for 428 cents coming back at $1762.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Reports
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good quality yarding with good runs of well finished heavy weight lambs alongside the odd pen of neat trade lambs and heavier Merino lambs.
Trade weight lambs were sold around firm, with old lambs selling for $110 - $210 to average around 825c/kg. Heavy weight lambs were also unchanged with old lambs 24kg – 26kg selling from $200 - $218, with lambs over 26kg brought from $210 - $243 to average 775c/kg. Heavy weight Merino lambs over 24kgs sold from $180 - $203.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Firstly to Dubbo for the O’Connor family off “Warren Downs”, who sold 2nd cross lambs in a fresh 3 & 4 score condition to the southern exporter for $243.
To Wongarbon now the Walters family off “Plain Creek”, who sold fresh crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with an inch skin to the local exporter for $234.
Lastly to Wellington for the Deshon family off “Rocklee”, who sold well bred Aussie White lambs in fresh, fat condition to the kill for $218.
Into the mutton pens now, where most grades were represented that saw heavy sheep lose $5 while the plainer, lighter and medium weight sheep lost $15/head. Merino ewes sold from $50 - $133 while the crossbred ewes brought $62 - $190 and the Merino wethers topped at $143/head.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -
To Nyngan for the Frankham family off “River Ridge”, who sold well bred Merino ewes with a 2 inch skin in a 3 score condition for $130.
To Wongarbon on the same truck as the lambs for the Walters family off “Plain Creek”, who sold heavyweight Merino ewes with an inch skin, in a 3 & 4 score condition to the local exporter for $141.
At Wellington now for the Whale family off “Glenroy”, who sold 1st cross ewes in a 3 score condition with a 2 inch skin for $115.
Lastly in the same district for the Clarke family off “Mehruda”, who sold well bred Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, freshly shorn to the local exporter for $99.
