Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody this is John Lindsay taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the last week of February 2022. Tallied number this week included –
2200 fat cattle
13000 Lambs and
6000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a smaller yarding with most categories represented, with the market fully firm for most categories, with kill cattle possible 2 to 4 cents dearer on what was once again a very strong market.
Vealer steers in shorter supply and mainly to restockers 660 to 758 cents. Vealer heifers also mainly to restockers and seeing most sales between 582 and 640 cents, with an isolated kill results 576 to 600 cents. Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 568 to 594 cents, with suitable plainer restocker drafts 568 to 680 cents, with heavy weights over 400kg to feed 500 to 604 cents, with plenty in that mid 500 bracket, with the top end mainly being Angus drafts. Yearling heifers under 400kg to processors 490 to 580 cents due a shortage of suitable types. Yearling heifers over 400kg 450 to 562 cents.
Into export sales, heavy feeder steers up to 500kg 458 to 566 cents, with heavier weights over 500kg 420 to 534 cents, with kill results for heavier bullocks 440 to 462 cents on the lighter, younger end, with heavy weight mature aged bullocks 430 to 456 cents. Into cow sales, which were stronger by a least 4 to 6 cents, with medium weights 364 to 385 cents, with heavy weight cows seeing most sales between 350 and 385 and topping at 405 cents. With the best bulls this week seeing sales between 325 and 360 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly, locally for Dean & Annette Walton of “Gungalman” at Dubbo, who sold Angus feeder steers that weighed 450kg for 604 cents and these top steers came back at $2715.
The Crockett Family of “Nithsdale” at Bakers Swamp, sold mature aged Angus cross bullocks that weighed 780kg for 449 cents and they came back at $3500.
At Tottenham for The Weber Family of “Chelsea”, who sold Angus feeder steers that weighed 400kg for 605 cents and they came back at $2410.
While for the Gibson Family of “Wilgadale” at Girilambone, who sold fresh, young Hereford steers to feedlotters that weighed 415kg for 574 cents and they came back at $2375.

Into the lambs pens now, where the market was at least $5 to $10 cheaper for most categories on what was a very mixed yarding.
Into crossbred sales firstly, with lighter restocker types $108 to $136
Light trade $140 to $166
Medium trade $144 to $188
Heavy trade or light export $156 to $203
With export weights $188 to $225
With drafts up to 30kg dressed $203 to $246
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $256 to $275.
Into Merino sales, and they were in shorter supply, with light kill types $118 to $130
Medium trade $155 to $183, but had to be good to get there
Heavy trade saw sales between $160 and $173
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly, locally for Rod & Clare Pilon of “Chloe” at Dubbo, who sold super heavy weight 2nd cross lambs, to the export orders, with a 1 inch skin in a 4 score condition and these top lambs made $266.
Paul & Carmel Quinn off “Caroo” at Dubbo, sold light export weight White Dorper lambs in a rock hard 3 score condition and these top lambs made $200.
The Whillock Family of “Maxland” at Geurie, sold export weight 2nd cross lambs with a fresh ¼ inch skin and these fresh lambs made $248.
At Nyngan for Pete & Debbie Pearce, who sold 1st cross light export weight lambs with a ¼ inch skin for $203.
While at Baradine for Warick Worrell, who sold crossbred lambs to the restockers with a ½ inch skin and they made $150.
To the mutton pens now, where like the lambs it was cheaper, but this time mainly $10 to $15 on what seemed to be a flat market.
Boner ewes $55 to $90 and mainly Merino’s
Medium weight ewes $140 to $156 for the plainer Merino’s or $160 to $185 for the rounder types – with the crossbred portion $110 to $136, with the more rounder types making up to $186
With export weights over 30kg dressed and mainly all being crossbreds $170 to $218
Boner wethers $60 to $81
Medium weights $145 to $155 and mainly all Merino’s
Export weights $133 to $199 for Merino’s or $150 to $190 for Dorper’s
With super heavy weights mainly all being crossbreds $210 to $230
