Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon this is Matthew Weber with the weekly livestock market report for the last week of September.  Reduced numbers came forward this week with only the following numbers penned -
3400 fat cattle
7400 lambs
6500 mutton and no store cattle sale this week.

Into the cattle pens firstly were the quality of the yarding was of a better standard than the last couple of weeks. The market in general was firm to 5 cents dearer across all grades. C3 yearling steers to the butchers made from 275 to 305 cents with the heifer portion making from 263 to 298 cents. Feeder steers remained fully firm with most sales making between 265 to 296 cents.
Heavy steers and bullocks finished the week up to 6 cents dearer with most young bullocks making between 290 to 320 cents. Aged bullocks made between 260 to 282 cents. Heavy D4 cows sold to strong gallery of buyers to sell to a top of 260 cents. Medium weight D3 cows made from 185 to 228 cents. Light D2 cows made from 158 to 192 cents. Best heavy bull sold to a top of 258 cents.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following cattle for their clients-

The McWhirter Family of “Springfield” at Toorweenah, sold light Angus cross steers to the feedlotters for 281 cents, they weighed 386kg to return $1087.

Phillip & Debra Bell of “Barney’s” at Mendooran, sold Angus cross steers to the feedlotters for 280 cents, they weighed 396kg or $1108.

Jim & Abigail McLaughlin of “Merryanbone North” at Warren, sold heavy Angus cross cows for 259 cents, they weighed 614kg and these good clean cows came back at $1592.

The Wells Family of “Windora Station” at Cobar, sold heavy Santa heifers to the butchers for 275 cents, they weighed 487kg to return $1340.

And for Bill Murray of “Multagoona Cottage” at Bourke, who sold heavy Brahman bullocks for 210 cents, these big heavy old timers weighed 785kg or $1650.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where the reduced lamb numbers helped the market to be up to $5 to $10 dearer across all grades.  There was a better quality yarding of lambs on offer this week.

Light new season lambs made from $76 to $116
Medium weight new season lambs made from $120 to $148
Heavy new season lambs made from $150 to $195

Light cross bred lambs made from $70 to $133
Medium weight cross bred lambs made from $135 to $188
Heavy weight cross bred lambs made from $170 to $237

Light Merino lambs made from $55 to $129
Medium weight Merino lambs made from $130 to $149
Heavy Merino lambs made from $150 to $175

Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following lambs for their clients-

Kev Olsen of “Mindamar” at Geurie, sold heavy Suffolk cross lambs in a 3 score condition, with a 1 inch skin and these well finished lambs made $213.

The Plummer Family of “Trigoona” at Tottenham, sold medium weight 1st cross wether lambs in a 3 score condition, with a 3 month skin for $190.

And Jon Pocknell of “Spring Valley Station” at Walgett, who sold medium weight Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $160.
Across to the mutton pens now were the dearer trend continued with most grades finishing the week $5 to $9 stronger. All regular buyers were in attendance.
Light ewes made from $50 to $99
Medium weight ewes made from $89 to $130
Heavy ewes made from $123 to $190
Light wethers made from $58 to $85
Medium weight wethers made from $112 to $158
Heavy wethers made from $154 to $188

Just a couple of quick mutton quotes -

The Bryan Family of “Newe Park” at Warren, sold medium weight Merino ewes in 2 and 3 score condition with a 1 inch skin for $122.

And for The Beinke Family of “Copper Downs” at Warialda, who sold heavy Merino wethers in a 3 score condition, with a 3 week skin for $165.
