Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at the livestock markets out of Dubbo for the third week of January 2021. Tallied numbers this week included –
1700 fat cattle
5500 lambs
3600 mutton and
500 store cattle
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a good quality yarding of cattle and a bigger yarding. The market in general is still very strong, with young cattle to restockers and feeder cattle the highlight.
Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers - 536 to 561 cents for the light weights or 416 to 524 cents for suitable drafts up to around 300kg live. Feeder types over 300kg - 422 to 470 cents, with restocker drafts up to 490 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 400 to 463 cents, with the top of this category being mainly Angus drafts. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feedlotters - 427 to 466 cents, with condition a big factor. Heavier drafts over 400kg to feed - 371 to 454 cents.
Into export sales, heavy feeder steers over 500kg - 368 to 455 cents, with the top end being in the low 500kgs, with kill drafts 370 to 378 cents for the young bullocks or 324 to 360 cents for the mature aged drafts.
Boner cows to restockers 231 to 262 cents, medium weight cows 282 to 300 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 290 to 310 cents generally and topping at 318 cents and bearing in mind there wasn’t many cows yarded this week.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Locally for Viv & Suz White of “Cardington” at Molong, who sold Angus Hereford cross steers to feedlotters, they weighed 470kg for 445 cents and these top steers came back at $2100.
For a local vendor – young Angus cross bullocks to kill, they weighed 575kg for 373 cents and they came back at $2150.
Clarry George of “Yulcarley Station” at Bourke, sold Hereford cross steers to feedlotters for 439 cents, they weighed 420kg and these fresh young steers came back at $1845.
And lastly for Mick & Michaela Fisher of “Kilberoo” at Yantabulla, who sold CFA Santa cross bullocks, they weighed 740kg for 330 cents and they came back at $2440.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where like the cattle it was a very good market with all categories selling to fully firm to slightly dearer trends, but bearing in mind it was a smaller yarding.
Into suckers or young lambs firstly, with restocker drafts up to 18kg dressed $150 to $170
Suitable trade kill weights $170 to $204
With limited export weights with suitable drafts $214 to $229
Into crossbred sales, light kill types up to 18kg dressed $140 to $165
Trade weights $145 to $175
Heavy trade $170 to $198
With export weights seeing most sales between $202 and $217
With super heavies $220 to $230 generally and this week topping at $277 for a pen of 2nd cross lambs estimated to weigh well in excess of 30kg dressed.
Into Merino sales, light trade $150 to $157
Medium trade $160 to $175
With heavy trade $184 to $190
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Locally for the Whale Family of “Glenroy” at Wellington, who sold 2nd cross suckers – unshorn to restockers and they made $171.
To Nyngan for Mark & Clare McConochie of “Mirilba”, who sold export weight Merino lambs with an 8 week skin, in a 3 score condition for $190.
While Jon & Helen Matchett of “Budgery” sold 2nd cross suckers to the heavy trade butchers for $199.
Into the mutton pens now, where it was still a very strong market for most categories and if anything was cheaper, the medium weight ewes could have been a bit softer on what is still a very strong market.
Light boner ewes $104 to $124
Medium weights $125 to $158 for the majority of Merino ewes, with the framier types making up to $170
Export weights $169 to $230 for Merino’s or $154 to $194 for crossbreds
With super heavy drafts over 30kg dressed mainly being crossbreds, seeing sales between $200 and $210
Medium weight wethers $144 to $170 for crossbreds or $120 to $158 for Merino’s
Export weights $160 to $200 for Merino’s or $173 to $216 for crossbreds
With super heavy drafts over 30kg dressed $190 to $200 for crossbreds and up to $228 for Merino’s
Just a quick quote this week for Simon and Kelly Earl of “Longstowe” at Warren, who sold large framed Merino ewes with a ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition to the exporters for $177.
Reminder - LPA NVDs
From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.
A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.
New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.
As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
