Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of November 2020. Tallied numbers this week included –
2700 fat cattle
6300 lambs and
4200 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a mixed quality yarding with good runs of yearlings to suit both the processors and the feeder orders. Not all the regular buyers were operating in a mostly cheaper market.
Young kill cattle were 15 cents cheaper with prime vealers selling to a top of 446 cents. Prime steer yearlings brought 360 – 415 cents, while the prime heifer yearlings made 360 – 425 cents. Feeder steers were 10 cents cheaper and so were the light weight feeder heifers while the heavy weight heifers were slightly dearer. Feeder steers brought 380 - 448 cents, while the feeder heifers made 364 - 426 cents. Yearlings to the restock were 5 cents cheaper with the steers selling from 368 – 460 cents, while the heifer yearlings to the restock sold from 415 - 456 cents.
Grown steers and heifers were 15 -20 cents cheaper, with prime steers selling from 300 – 371 cents, while prime grown heifers brought 300 - 359 cents. Cows lost 15 cents, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows bringing 220 – 272 cents, while the prime heavy weights made 260 - 306 cents, finishing the day averaging 291 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Hungerford for Mick & Michaela Fisher off ‘Kilberoo’, who sold well finished Santa cross steers for 300 cents, weighing in at 945kg making $2835.
Now to Nyngan for John & Mary Burley off ’Woodlands Station’ who sold heavy Angus cross cows for 280 cents, weighing 623kg bringing $1745.
To the Eumungerie district for Ray & Leonie Crook, who sold well bred Angus heifers that made 418 cents, they weighed 359kg coming back at over $1504.
In the Geurie district for the Whillock family off ’Maxland’, who sold heavy Angus feeder steers weighing 475kg for 415 cents, and they came back at $1974.
And lastly in the same district for Sam & Penny Deshon off ‘Rocklee’, who sold well presented Angus feeder steers for 420 cents, they weighed 452kg making $1901.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a fair quality yarding with some good pens of shorn lambs and good numbers of well finished Merino lambs. Trade lambs were $5 cheaper with trade suckers selling from $148 - $192. Trade old lambs sold from $142 - $200 to average between 765 - 790c/kg. Heavy weight lambs had no change with the old lambs over 24kg bringing $188 - $241, averaging between 750 - 770c/kg. Merino lambs were $5 dearer with the trade weights selling from $150 - $177, while the heavy weights over 24kg made $194 - $214.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to the far west via Broken Hill, for the Taylor family off ‘Borrona Downs’ who sold Merino hoggets with an inch and a half skin for $190.
To Baradine for the McConnaughty family off ’Elstow’, who sold well covered Merino lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition for $214.
And lastly to Dubbo, for the Barton family, who sold fresh Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $192.
Now in the mutton pens, where it was a mixed quality yarding of mutton. Light and medium sheep were $5 - $10 cheaper, while the heavy weights saw no change. Merino ewes made from $100 - $203, while crossbred ewes sold for $166 - $240. Merino wethers sold from $130 - $213.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -
To Hermidale for Jon & Helen Matchett off ‘Budgery’, who sold heavy crossbred wethers in a 4-5 score condition with a 1/4 inch skin for $246.
And down the road in the Nyngan district for the George family off ‘The Corners’, who sold a line of well finished Merino ewes in a 3 score condition to the exporters for $170.
Reminder - LPA NVDs deadline
From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.
A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.
New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.
As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
