Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of December 2020. Tallied numbers this week included –
16500 fat cattle
7200 lambs and
4500 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a better quality yarding, with good runs of young cattle to suit both the processors and the feeder orders. There was good numbers of grown steers and heifers but only limited numbers of cows penned.
Young kill cattle were stable with prime vealers selling to a top of 460c/kg. Prime yearlings brought 356 – 426 cents. Feeder cattle were 5 – 7 cents cheaper. Feeder steers brought 360 - 439c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 314 - 424c/kg. Young cattle to restockers were unchanged with steer weaners selling from 430- 500c/kg, while young restocker heifers sold to 404c/kg. Steer yearlings to the restockers sold from 396 – 472 cents, while the heifer yearlings to the restockers sold from 370 - 450c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers were 20 - 30c/kg cheaper, with prime steers selling from 305 – 330 cents, while prime grown heifers brought 275 - 338c/kg. Cows saw no change, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows brining 230 – 274 cents, while the prime heavy weights made 274 - 302c/kg finishing the day averaging 283c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Tottenham for the Weber family off ‘Chelsea’, who sold well finished Angus steers for 390c/kg weighing in at 505kg making $1969.
Down the road in the same district for Ian & Roz McFadyen of ‘Killarney’, who sold well grown Angus cross steers weighing 593kg making 315c/kg coming back at $1867.
Now to Trangie for the McKay family off ’Winnabri’, who sold heavy Angus feeder steers for 420c/kg weighing 463kg bringing $1945.
To the Geurie district for Peter Bryant of ‘Kurrabri’, who sold well bred Angus steers that made 390c/kg and they weighed 525kg coming back at over $2047.
Lastly to Yeoval for the Atkinson family off ‘Wonga’, who sold well presented Santa feeder steers for 414c/kg that weighed 425kg making $1760.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a better quality yarding with a good selection of trade lambs and good numbers of well finished heavy weight lambs. Once again Merino lambs were we represented. Trade lambs were $5 dearer with trade suckers selling from $155 - $180. Trade old lambs sold from $140 - $188 to average between 750c - 790c/kg. Heavy weight lambs had $5 - $7 dearer with the old lambs over 24kg - 30kg bringing $185 - $225 and the over 30kgs $249 - $280 averaging 790c/kg. Suckers over 24kg making between $185 - $220. Merino lambs were firm with the trade weights selling from $150 - $184 while the heavy weights over 24kg making $173 - $208.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to Bourke for Ben & Liarne Mannix off ‘Gumbooka’ who sold fresh well covered Dorper suckers for $220.
To Nyngan now for the Young family off ’Pinegrove’, who sold well covered crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $259.
To Geurie now for the Beard family, who sold fresh shorn crossbred lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition for $200.
In the same district for Bob & Robin Hubbard off ’Tanna’, who sold well bred crossbred lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition for $185.
Lastly to Euchareena for Brian Brazier off ‘Wombang’ who sold fresh crossbred suckers in a 2 score condition for $161.
Now in the mutton pens, where it was a mixed quality yarding of mutton with some outstanding heavy weights alongside a larger percentage of plainer types. Light and medium sheep were $5 cheaper while the heavy weight sheep were dearer based on quality. Merino ewes made from $100 - $215, while crossbred ewes sold for $122 - $220. Merino wethers sold from $120 - $205. Mutton finished the day averaging 600c - 645c/kg.
Just a quick quote this week for the George family off ‘The Corners’ at Nyngan, who sold a line of well finished Merino ewes in a 3 score condition to the exporters for $164.
Well that about wraps it up this week, just some dates to keep in mind – the last cattle for 2020 will be next Thursday 17/12/2020, with the last sheep sale on Monday 14/12/2020 and recommencing in 2021 on Thursday January 7, 2021 for fat cattle and Monday 11th January, 2021 for sheep.
Reminder - LPA NVDs deadline
From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.
A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.
New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.
As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
