Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon this is Matthew Weber with a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the second week of February, 2021.  Tallied numbers this week included –

1940 fat cattle
9520 lambs and
3480 sheep

Into the cattle pens firstly, where the market in general remained firm on last week’s strong rates.  There was a large percentage of well finished cattle throughout the yarding, with not many restocker cattle penned.

Young cattle to the butchers remained fully firm, with most steers making from 410 to 438 cents, with the heifer portion selling to a top of 432 cents.  Feeder steers remained fully firm, with heavy feeders making from 400 to 434 cents, with the lighter feeders selling to a top of 458 cents. 

Heavy steers and bullocks were in limited supply with most young bullocks making between 372 and 388 cents, with the aged bullocks selling to a top of 368 cents.  Cows remained firm to 5 cents cheaper, with heavy D4 cows making from 294 to 308 cents.  Medium weight D3 cows made from 282 to 298 cents.  The best heavy bull sold to a top of 315 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Dennis Fitzgerald of “Carmel” at Baradine, sold heavy Charolais cross feeder steers for 435 cents, they weighed 508kg to return $2212.

The O’Neill Family of “Nellady” at Dandaloo, sold Angus Hereford cross steers to the feedlotters for 435 cents, they weighed 469kg to come back at $2041.

The Richardson Family of “Karamea” at Trangie, sold preg tested empty Angus cows for a sale topping 308 cents, they weighed 740kg or $2279.

And for The Weston Family of “Baledmund” at Nymagee, who sold preg tested empty Range Master heifers for 415 cents, they weighed 457kg and these heifers sold to the feedlotters for $1898.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Across to the lamb pens now, where the market in general was firm to $8 dearer across all grades.  Trade weight new season lambs were $2 dearer, trade weight old lambs were fully firm, with heavy lambs being up to $4 dearer.  Merino lambs were $5 to $8 dearer on last week’s sales.

Medium new season lambs made from $160 to $191
Heavy new season lambs made from $203 to $212

Light crossbred lambs made from $128 to $158
Medium weight crossbred lambs made from $160 to $212
Heavy crossbred lambs made from $197 to $283

Light Merino lambs made from $94 to $147
Medium weight Merino lambs made from $150 to $174
Heavy Merino lambs made from $185 to $215

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

The Whillock Family of “Calodonia” at Baradine, sold heavy Australian White lambs in 3 and 4 score condition for $270.

Matt & Rachel Adams of “St Louie” at Mendooran, sold medium weight Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition for $180.

Kevin Olsen of “Mindamar” at Geurie, sold heavy 1st cross lambs in a 3 score condition, with a 1 ½ inch skin for $212.

Paul & Carmel Quinn of “Caroo” at Dubbo, sold heavy Dorper lambs in 3 and 4 score condition for $220.

Jon & Helen Matchett of “Budgery” at Hermidale, sold heavy 1st cross lambs in a 3 score condition with an 8 week skin for $190.

Jean Dunn of “Bundong” at Coolabah, sold medium weight 1st cross lambs, in a 3 score condition, with a 5 month skin for $179.

And for The Bredhauer Family of “Claverton at Cunnamulla, sold medium weight Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $195.

Into the mutton pens now, where a good quality yarding of mutton met a cheaper trend.  Light to medium weight sheep were $3 to $7 cheaper, with heavier weights being up to $15 softer. 

Light ewes made from $92 to $126
Medium weight ewes made from $140 to $178
Heavy ewes made from $166 to $208

Light wethers made from $96 to $130
Medium weight wethers made from $145 to $183
Heavy wethers made from $180 to $213

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients –

The Camilleri Family of “Stanton” at Baradine, sold heavy Dorper ewes in 3 and 4 score condition for a sale topping $208.00

And for Adam & Billie-Jean Altus of “Wyndorah” at Coonamble, who sold heavy Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with a 3 month skin for $204.

From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.

A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.

New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.

As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
