Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of February 2021.  Tallied numbers this week included –
1900 fat cattle
9,500 lambs and

7,600 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a yard made up heavily of yearlings, grown steers and heifers along with a better selection of cows.  It was a good quality yarding, with good runs to suit both the processors and the feeder orders.

Young kill cattle were firm with prime vealers selling to a top of 450c/kg.  Prime steer yearlings brought 370 – 455 cents, while prime heifer yearlings made 380 - 449c/kg.  Feeder steers saw no change while the heifer portion were 10 – 15 cents cheaper.  Feeder steers brought 403 - 468c/kg while the feeder heifers made 370 - 463c/kg.  Young cattle to restock stayed strong with steer weaners selling for 525c/kg while young restocker heifers sold to 495c/kg.  Grown steers and heifers were 10c/kg cheaper, with prime steers selling from 340 – 388 cents, while prime grown heifers brought 316 - 372c/kg.  Cows were 5 cents cheaper, with the medium 3 score cows bringing 278 - 295c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 280 - 321c/kg finishing the day averaging 304c/kg.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to Nymagee for the Weston family off ‘Yalgo’, who sold a well bred line of Santa cross cows for 310c/kg, weighing in at 717kg making $2225.

Down the road to Tottenham now for the Plummer family off ‘Trigoona’ who sold well bred heavy Red Angus feeder steers for 424c/kg weighing 499kg coming back at over $2117.

Over to Warren for the McLaughlin family off ‘Merryanbone North’ who sold well finished Angus steers weighing 517kg making 388c/kg coming back at $2008.

Lastly to the Dubbo district for the Koerstz family, who sold a line of well bred Angus cross heavy steers that made 380c/kg and they weighed 580kg coming back at over $2204.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a mixed quality yarding with a good selection of trade lambs and some outstanding well finished heavy weight lambs.  There was also a fair number of secondary type lambs.  Trade lambs were firm with only a few trade suckers selling from $168 - $202.  Trade old lambs sold from $150 - $200 to average between 780 - 825c/kg.  Heavy weight lambs were $10 - $15 dearer with the old lambs 24kg - 30kg bringing $198 - $267, and the over 30kgs $236 - $279.  Merino lambs were $10 - $15 dearer with trade weight lambs selling from $150 - $194 while the heavier weights over 24kg making $186 - $217.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

Firstly to Hermidale for Jon & Helen Matchett off ‘Budgery’, who sold freshly shorn well covered crossbred lambs for $210.

Now for a North western client who sold fresh Dorper/Merino cross suckers straight off the ewe for $168.

To Mendooran now for Kevin Bell off ’Wallah’, who sold well covered Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $198.

Lastly to Geurie now for the Whillock family off ‘Maxland’, who sold well bred crossbred lambs with a 1/2 inch skin, in a 4 score condition for $267.

Now in the mutton pens, where there were some great sheep penned in a good quality yarding, where most grades were $5 - $10 dearer and more in places.  Merino ewes made from $90 - $234, while crossbred ewes sold for $95 - $230.  Merino wethers sold from $100 - $248.  Most of the sheep averaged between 630 - 680c/kg.

 

Just a quick quote this week, to the Brewarrina district for Peter & Sally Davis off ‘Burbar’, who sold a line of well finished merino wethers in a 3 score condition with a 2 inch skin to the exporters for $223.

From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.

A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.

New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.

As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
