Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of January 2021. Tallied numbers this week included –
650 fat cattle
11400 lambs and
2400 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a better quality yarding with good runs of young cattle to suit both the processors and the feeder orders. There was limited numbers of grown steers and heifers penned.
Young kill cattle were met with strong competition with prime vealers selling to a top of 458c/kg. Prime steer yearlings brought 390 – 440 cents, while prime heifer yearlings made 400 - 454c/kg. Feeder cattle were 10 – 15 cents dearer, Feeder steers brought 400 - 446c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 400 - 450c/kg.
Young cattle to restock stayed strong with steer weaners selling for 620c/kg while young restocker heifers sold to 496c/kg. Grown steers and heifers were 20c/kg dearer, with prime steers selling from 350 – 392 cents, while prime grown heifers brought 360 - 373c/kg. Cows were 5 cents dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows bringing 225 – 285 cents, while the prime heavy weights made 278 - 305c/kg finishing the day averaging 294c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Tottenham for the Weber family off ‘Kia-Ora’, who sold a well bred line of Angus steers for 420c/kg weighing in at 445kg making $1824.
Over to Binnaway now for the Hall family off ‘Mount Marion’ who sold well bred heavy Devon cows for 298c/kg weighing 632kg coming back at over $1886.
To Dubbo now for the Skinner family off ‘Wembley Park’, who sold Fresian cows weighing 533kg making 225c/kg coming back at $1200.
Lastly to the Geurie district for the Whillock family off ‘Maxland’, who sold a line of well bred Angus feeder steers that made 443c/kg, they weighed 463kg coming back at over $2053.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good quality yarding with a good selection of trade lambs and some outstanding well finished heavy weight lambs. There were also a fair number of lambs to suit the restockers.
Trade lambs were $5 dearer with trade suckers selling from $166 - $200. Trade old lambs sold from $175 - $212 to average between 800 - 835c/kg. Heavy weight lambs were firm with the old lambs over 24kg - 30kg bringing $196 - $240, and the over 30kgs made between $250 - $278. Heavy weight new season lambs sold from $192 - $220. Merino lambs were $10 - $15 dearer with fewer penned. Trade weight Merino lambs sold from $150 - $200.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to Tilpa for Brett Barrington off ‘River Gunyait’, who sold fresh well covered Dorper lambs for $212.
To Nyngan for Heath Boland off ’Pepper Farm’, who sold well covered Dorper lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $240.
Over to Coonamble for the Altus family off ‘Wyndorah’, who sold fresh shorn crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $250.
In the Wellington district for Paul Vernon off ’Gunners Dam’, who sold well bred crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $223.
In the same district for the Whale family off ‘Glenroy’, who sold fresh 2nd cross suckers to the restock orders for $168.
Lastly to Gulgong for the Thompson family, who sold well presented heavy crossbred lambs in a 4 & 5 score condition topping the market at $278.
Now in the mutton pens, where it was a mixed quality yarding where all grades were up to $10 dearer.
Merino ewes made from $89 - $193, while crossbred ewes sold for $124 - $237.
Merino wethers sold from $115 - $193.
Just a quick quote out of the Wellington district for the Grattan family off ‘Pine Park’, who sold a line of well finished Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with a 2 inch skin to the exporters for $165.
Reminder - LPA NVDs
From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.
A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.
New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.
As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
